Windows 7 SP1 Explorer hangs when copying file to a share
Hello, After installing SP1 on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit I am having a problem when copying files to shares on our server (runnning Windows 2008 R2 SP1). The file is copied but Explorer continues showing the dialog "Copying". The process cannot be killed with Task Manager and I am forced to restart manually the computer. I have already imported http://cid-128fc518635be2dc.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/MS%20Foren/Registry/WER%5E_Explorer.reg. However there is no dump file output. Can you please help me? Thanks, Mauro

Hi Mauro, when you see a hang, no dump is created. The dump is only created after applying the reg if you see "Windows Explorer has stopped working". You can create a hang dump [1] with adplus from the Debugging tools and upload the zipped dump. Hello André, Thank you for your reply. I have followed the steps and have a dump file (190 MBs in a zip file). Where should I upload the file to? SkyDrive only accepts files up to 50 MBs. Mauro

the Explorer seems to hang to display the animation: UIAnimation!UI::Animation::CManager::GetVariableFromTag explorer!CTaskListWnd::HasAnimation+0x58 explorer!CTaskBtnGroup::_GetNormalizedButtonWidth+0x75 explorer!CTaskBtnGroup::GetIdealSpan+0x145 explorer!CTaskListWnd::_RecomputeLayoutRow+0xb7 explorer!CTaskListWnd::_RecomputeLayout+0x81c explorer!CTaskListWnd::OnPostUpdate+0x21 UIAnimation!UI::Animation::CTimer::OnTimerTick+0x11d UIAnimation!UI::Animation::CTimer::WndProc+0xe9 UIAnimation!UI::Animation::CTimer::StaticWndProc+0x45 user32!UserCallWinProcCheckWow+0x1ad user32!DispatchMessageWorker+0x3b5 explorer!CTray::_MessageLoop+0x446 explorer!CTray::MainThreadProc+0x8a shlwapi!WrapperThreadProc+0x19b kernel32!BaseThreadInitThunk+0xd this causes the Explorer hang. I also had this some times. The animation and the progressbar stopped but the copy process still works in background. I have no idea how to debug this more. Try the hotfix from Edward_b. Maybe it solves it. if not, contact the MS support. André"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? The hotfix did not work. The problem seems to occur with files larger than 10 MB...

Try this hotfix: KB2492806 - A Windows Vista-based, Windows Server 2008-based, Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer that shares some files and some folders may not respond to file share requests If it doesn't work, contact the MS support."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" Want to install RSAT on Windows 7 Sp1? I found out that issuing the following commands at the Windows 7 machine solved the problem: netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled

nice to hear that you fixed it."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" I'm going to leave the forum on 31th March 2011 if I don't get a Feedback about the SPAM of 2 MVPs. So if you want an answer, be fast so that I can help you before I leave the Technet forum.

On the 2008 R2 server: Under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters, create a DWORD value named "Smb2" and set its value to 0. It requires a reboot. Worked well for us. You know, I am certain that MS knew about this issue. It is prevalent and consistent. I am disappointed that it hasn't been fixed yet. EDIT: This did work to solve the copy hangs buuuuuut....now I am getting network path no longer available and it is kind of a flaky error that doesn't seem to affect every machine's access to this particular 2008 R2 server. I had set this fix on my SCCM dist server and now I can't copy packages over because of it. I am going to test the autotune thing.

I tried both the HotFix and the code of "netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled netsh int ip set global taskoffload=disabled" on both my win7 sp1 computers....and i have the same issue. i can transfer small files one at a time....but any large files or copying multiple files over networks...gives me an error...anything else that can help?
