Windows 7 Retail, opening My Computer or IE8 hangs or freezes up. 11-10-09,
Windows 7 -64 bit Retail with all MS Critical UpdatesI have an erratic issue that happens when I either open My Computer or Internet Explorer 8. Opening My Computer sometimes will hang with a green status bar running across the top of the window and no drives are displayed. I have let the system run for hours and it never gets past this green status bar. Internet Explorer 8 also hangs erratically while opeining and freezes with the spinningprocessing globe. Once either ofthese issues happens I must reboot the computer or the computer will just keep reproducing the same freezingproblem. But about 70% of the time the computer functions without any issues and opens My Computer and IE8 jsut fine, and very fast.I first suspected Indexing was the issue, but I have disabled indexing three different ways, 1. Start - Indexing typed in search - Indexing Options - Deselected all locations and selected Advanced and deslected all; 2. My Computer - right click C: and under General Tab unchecked allow indexing on the drive; 3. Control Panel - Indexing Options - verified all locations are unchecked. Does anyone have any other suggestions?System is Intel i7 920 not overclocked running under 35 degrees celsius, 6GB Ram, Asus P6T MB. Seagate Sata HD, SATA interface DVD drive, Nvidia GTX280 with 191.07 driver. Norton Internet Security 2010 and Spysweeper, MS Office 2000.

Since posting the issues above I updated to the latest ASUS P6T motherboard bios and Intel chipset inf driver. It seems to have fixed the My Computer freezing and IE8 hang (so far anyway), but created an "Unhandled Exception Error" in Call of Duty World at War, which had no problems prior to the bios/inf updates. To fix COD WAW I re-ran DirectX setup from Microsoft's website using the "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer", since it seems to add files the redistributable package does not include, and Iinstalled an updated Realtek sound driver. Plus I changed the COD WAW default settins OFF of Dual Video Cards and changed to 1024x768 resolution at 59hz to match what Windows 7 setfor therefresh rate. I also left Norton Internet Security enabled (without sonar) but disabled Spysweeper, just in case there was a conflict between the two. I'll post another update after I run the system several days.

Same problem here, I think it's the Webroot Spysweeper cause when I disable it doesn't happen.
