Windows 7 Removing un-used computer name from My Computer
We are running Windows 7 at my office. Originally we had a computer named OFFICE7 in our workgroup but I removed the computer after adding another, with a different name, to replace it. I only had one drive mapped to OFFICE 7 and one shared
printer.
After physically removing OFFICE7, deleting all references on other computers in the workgroup to the mapped drive and printer and un-sharing all the resources on it, OFFICE 7 still appears in My Computer, in the left pane under the NETWORK tree. I
have tried deleting this invalid reference every way that I can with no luck. The computer name does NOT appear in the right pane, only the left.
I found numerous references to OFFICE7 in the registry (on OFFIVE7) but am not keen on manually removing them as I fear I may harm something.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated...and my boss will again believe that I'm a guru, not an idiot. lol
Thank you

Thank you Niki,
I had already disabled offline files, checked my HOSTS file and flushed with IPCONFIG. I did not /release.
It was still there. I resorted to (backing up then) manually editing the registry and removing keys and values that referred to the computer name. Then I ran CClean to "fix" any registry errors and that solved it.
I've been a tech and progranmmer since the late 70s (before MS or IBM-PC) but I'm getting old and I have to sleep and wake up from a dream to solve some of these. lol
Thank you very much for your help

Hi,
Please check the following areas.
1. If offline files is enabled on your computer. If so, please disable it.
2. Use notepad to open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts, remove the wrong computer name and IP address if it is available.
3. Release and renew IP address
4. Run ipconfig /flushdns command.
