Windows 7 Random restarts - Error 41, no bugcheck information
Windows 7 Random restarts - Error 41, no bugcheck information Hi, I’m new here and having difficulties! We have recently rolled out Windows 7 32bit to our Dell laptops, maybe you can help: Symptoms The computer randomly restarts with no warning, error message or BSOD. (In most cases the computer will restart, in a few cases it turns off). Upon reboot the computer would give the recovery screen with the options for safe mode etc. Event Viewer shows Event 41 (full log below) but no other obvious/relevant entries around that time are shown. Event 41 does not contain any bugcheck information; it is always 0x0. The affected laptop models are: E6320, E6220 and E4310. Unaffected laptops are: E4300 and all desktops (Optiplex 750, 780) Known Crash Scenarios Using Excel Browsing with IE8 Copying files in Windows Explorer Switching between various Windows Returning from “screen off” power state (not hibernate or sleep) When the computer is idling (not in use) Using Outlook, switching to calendar Outlook as soon as new email popup appears Logging into Windows Crash observations - Crashing is not regular or predictable; it is always completely random and unexpected. - It has crashed in and out of docking stations - No mini dump file is ever created - Is only ever in Windows 7 (32bit, Service Pack 1) - Crash happens on 6 different laptops (most are new). It may crash on more but I don’t have spare laptops to test on. Due to the unpredictability it is hard to prove if a laptop has the issue - it may just not have crashed yet. My Investigation - The crash is happening on hardware previously running XP without a problem implying hardware is not to blame - I have had crashes on driver injected WDS images, images with pre-installed drivers and laptops build from scratch (that is from a DVD and installing drivers manually). In each case the PC has been fully up-to-date with Windows Updates and the latest drivers (I check regularly) - I have run MemTest86+ on 2 such problematic machines with no error. - I have run the dell diagnostics on 2 such problematic machines with no error - I am familiar with the MS KB on this issue (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504) and have tried all the suggestions at the bottom of the page and in scenario 3. - We have tried setting crash dump settings to not auto-restart and to do a mini dump but still no dump is ever created. - Have called Dell who says it must be an application we are using. We have Desktops using identical sets of applications with no crashes. - Have done CPU and graphics stress tests - Have done some fairly extensive research but no one else is having quite the same issue, or if they are their resolution does not work for us! As you can see, we have put some thought into this and are not really sure where to go now – any help would be mightily appreciated! Here is an example of a crash, they always are the same. This particular computer has had 5 crashes since 26th Aug 2011 when it was rebuild in response to this very issue! + System - Provider [ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power [ Guid] {331C3B3A-2005-44C2-AC5E-77220C37D6B4} EventID 41 Version 2 Level 1 Task 63 Opcode 0 Keywords 0x8000000000000002 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2011-09-05T12:01:41.476408700Z EventRecordID 6970 Correlation - Execution [ ProcessID] 4 [ ThreadID] 8 Channel System Computer <hidden> - Security [ UserID] S-1-5-18 - EventData BugcheckCode 0 BugcheckParameter1 0x0 BugcheckParameter2 0x0 BugcheckParameter3 0x0 BugcheckParameter4 0x0 SleepInProgress false PowerButtonTimestamp 0 Jeff.

Thanks for the reply but as I said, I already exhausted that link. I'm really at a loss - any help would be so helpful. Jeff.
