Windows 7 Random Mapped Drive
Hi There, We have an issue which seems to be affecting a couple of users who run Windows 7. Usually they have one mapped drive (H:, which is set manually) which is pointing to a share on a Small Business Server 2011 system. Occasionally when they logon several drives get mapped (X: Y: Z:) all pointing to the same location as H:. If the users reboot the computers the drives are still there. If the server gets rebooted, the drives disapear for a while, but then randomly comes back. I have ran a malware scan and virus scan but it finds nothing. I have come across a couple of people who have experienced this but there doesn't seem to be a fix. Anyone else come accross this, and have a fix? David.

Hi, First, please check if there is any auto mapping drive script on Server site or in local. Secondly, please test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot environment.Kim Zhou TechNet Community Support

Hi Kim, The issue is intemittent. I have spoken to the user today who has said they have now disappeared?!? I could restart the system a thousand times in safe mode with networking and nothing happens. Its a really odd problem we are seeing. Surely if there was a auto mapping scripped, then the drives should show up each time the user logs on? Many thanks, David.

Check the following registry setting for the affected user HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MountPoints2 You may need to do some clean up of the registry. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-networking/unable-to-remove-orphaned-shared-folders-windows-7/0defbdbe-5717-47d7-a2e6-991430a6a55a

The drives have appeared again. I have checked the registry keys and nothing. I even searched the registry for the drive letters X:\ Y:\ etc and it was empty. I suspect that a program is mapping these when it openes. I am getting the user to check the drives each morning, and through out the day to see when they appear.
