Windows 7 RTM 7/28/09
I received official notification today that Microsoft has finally went ahead and declared Windows 7 to be RTM. The expected general availability will be in October 22 when new computers will be available with the new OS. I am also aware that Technet and MSDN subscribers will be able to obtain the RTM release in approximately 2 more weeks. Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! IT/Developer, Windows/Linux/Whatever I need a new web server, the old IBM 300GL has a 137GB disk limit, for my chess site as the hard disk finally bit the dust. The Windows box is a RaidMax Smilodon chassis, Asus M2NBP-VM CSM motherboard, AMD 4200+ 65W CPU, 2GB RAM, ATI x600, over 1TB storage, Windows 7 RC.

I was waiting for formal notification from my own sources, not from some 3rd party. I am generally over on connect, where I got my license and ddk etc.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! ya the ddk is the Windows device driver kit, a whole different animal from the usual MSDN crowd. I am one of the very few who use it regularly. It uses C to write code, not C++ and lots of ASM. Oh. I'm maybe just not old enough to remember DDKs for Win 95, ME,2000.I agree I'm not as special. That's for sure.

I used those at one time, but long long ago. Today its Windows Server 2008 as the main platform with Windows 7 being based on it. It is backwards compatible so I can make drivers that support several versions of Windows easily. I have been a regular here for so long its not funny. I am also found over on MSDN occasionally. The connect groups are not open to the public as the server needs a user_id and password. I am also found on the newsgroups over in Microsoft communities as well as on Usenet generally.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! That is not where I get the ones I use. I get mine from my dashboard over at Microsoft Connect where I also have access to staff if there is a problem. I am using the Ecosystem for my Keys and other programs. Download the WDK for Windows 7 RC: The Windows 7 RC WDK (v.7.0.0) is available through the Windows Ecosystem Readiness Program and through MSDN Subscriber Downloads . It is also available to developers who are participants in the WDK beta program. If you want to participate in the WDK beta program, send an e-mail to wdkbeta@microsoft.com . You will receive an e-mail in return that contains instructions about how to sign up for the appropriate program on Microsoft Connect. I am registered, that is why I have all that stuff. Its available to MSDN subscribers. I am strong with IT as I am very well known here. But that is not by any means all I can do. The WDK is not part of Visual Studio at all.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)! As soon as I get the RTM link sent to me, I will be able to post remarks on my site in the forum. On my machine, the RC has been fine save for 1 program I have, Roxio Creator 2009. Everything else works fine. I am also looking to the upcoming Xmas season as I am probably going to grab a new notebook machine.Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!
