Windows 7 RTM - Offline Help and Support Broken
Hi, I am current using Windows 7 RTM 32-bit and I am having issues with the Help and Support feature in Windows. All of the links seems to be broken, and images are not appearing. There are also weird keywords appearing in the content, e.g __elbasuer__ (Reusable reversed). I have came across a few posts in the forum, but none specifies a reasonable solution to the problem. My friend, who is using the same RTM build is having the exact same problem with me as well. Below, I provide a few screenshots regarding the issue: Page displayed when the Home button is press, or when Help and Support is first launched:http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/4615/homepageo.jpg Page displayed when the Ask button is pressed:http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/6539/askbutton.jpg Search for a common term 'Internet Explorer' returns 0 results:http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/9978/searchm.jpg Switching to Online Help will solve all the problems, but that wouldn't be accepted as a permanent fix as sometimes I might not have internet access and not to mention, it is slower than the offline help.I really hope someone would enlighten me with a solution to fix the annoying issue on the Help and Support. Thanks in advance.

Hi Plexion, As OldHobo mentioned, could you please provide us the Windows 7's version installed? To check this, please go to Start, type winver in the Search box and then press Enter. For your reference, I have included my Windows 7's version below: Regards, Linda

Hi, I had validated my iso against the official Microsoft released hashes (SHA-1) and they matches perfectly. My friend was not using the same installation disc with me, so the problem could not be the installation source. Also, I have tried setting up a virtual machine using the same installation disc that I've used, and the problem does not exist in the virtual machine. The full build string of the Windows I am using is as follow: 7600.16385.x86fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255Thanks.

Hi Plexion, Does this issue occur in other user accounts? In addition, you also can try the following suggestions:First, access Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. If the issue persists in Clean Boot, remove temporary Internet files, browsing history, and Web form data by the steps below:1. Open Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options. 2. In the Internet Options dialog box, under Browsing history, click Delete. 3. In the Delete Browsing History dialog box, use the appropriate options to remove temporary Internet files, browsing history, and Web form data. 4. Click Close, and then click OK.However, if the issue persists, let's move on:1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box.2. Right-click the cmd.exe file and choose "Run as administrator".3. Input the following commands in the DOS prompt window and press ENTER at the end of each line:REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL /UREGSVR32 MSXML3.DLLREGSVR32 MSXML6.DLL /UREGSVR32 MSXML6.DLLPlease check if the offline help works now. If the issue still exists, you may have toperform in-place upgradeto resolve this issue.Hope this helps.Regards,Linda

Hi Linda, Apparently I found out the cause of this mess accidentally. It was the Bluetooth Card package which is suppose to install the Bluetooth device drivers as well as the Bluetooth utilities for my laptop. My laptop comes with a Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-card which isaccompanied by the WIDCOMM Bluetooth package which is available from Dell's website. I suspect the utility itself (the one which provides the tray icon for users to enable/disable Bluetooth radio) is causing the havoc, instead of the drivers. I removed the package mentioned above and Offline Help and Support fixed itself without any actions from me. But now, I am down without a proper control and driver for my Bluetooth device on my laptop. Is there anything that I can do? Please advice. Edit: Yes, itoccurredin every user accounts on the PC. Thank you for your time. Plexion

Hi Plexion,I am glad to hear that the cause has been found. Since the issue is Bluetooth device driver confliction, it is recommaned contacting Dell directly to check if there is any suitable driver available. In addition, I found an article from Dellmay be of help: Connect to a Bluetooth Device From Your Dell Computer in Windows 7. Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information. Thank you very much for your time and efforts.Regards,Linda

I have the same problem--offlline help returns 0 results for any search. However, I do not have bluetooth on my Lenovo ThinkPad T400. I'm using Windows 7 build 7600. The problem persists in safe mode; I tried deleting the IE data as well as the series of regsvr32 commands listed above, without change.

I also have this same problem and I do not have a Dell or Bluetooth. I have an HP originally with Windows Vista64 which I upgraded online. I ran winver.exe and I have exact build and version 6.1 build 7600 shown in above example. When I go to help I see "__elbasuer__" and no results.
