@ zx81sp:If that's the version of RSAT for Windows 7 that's dated from January (in other words, is meant for the Beta (build 7000)), then (assuming that you aren't a member of the Connect program) wait a few days for the revised (RC-specific) version of RSAT for Windows 7 to be released.HTH,Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Anyway that installer was working ok in 7068 (english) but not in 7100 (spanish) so may be a language issue.Regards

Thanks for the link Ned.I notice the newer RC version of the RSAT tools fixes a lot of the missing Terminal Services Tabs (or Remote Desktop Services as its now known)...Brilliant.I have also fixed the missing Remote Install Tab on the computer object.....although i find it bizarre Microsoft is continuing to exclude this when it is such an easy inclusion. But is there a fix forthe missing dial-in tabs on the user and computer objects? More to the point, why are they missing anyway?
May 7th, 2009 3:15pm

There is no fix for the Dial-In tab, because according to the Product Group, it is not broken - it is intentionally excluded. For reasons that I've never been able to get out of anyone, they don't want it on the client. I guess I'll do my annual ask there and see if I can getmore info...If you want to manage dial-in properties, it will need to be through a TS or RAIL session to your servers.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Hi Ned, Perhaps 'fix' was the wrong word, but a workaround would be immensely useful. Omitting these important tabs seems to defeat the whole point of RSAT, if i have to TS to a server to amend GUID's, change boot servers, and amend dialin settings etc. An unofficial workaround existed for the Vista RSAT dialin tab, which involved copying certain files (eg rasuser.dll and others) from a Server 2008 box. However, although applying this fix to Windows 7 makes the dialin tab appear, it reports an error 'member not found' when you view the tab. For reference, the Vista fix is documented below: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ru-RU/winserverManagement/thread/045876c8-fa63-4bcd-b7cf-ea98ac10db84 It would be brilliant to obtain an unofficial workaround for this for Windows 7 RSAT, if you can prise something out of the respective team :o) TIA Mark

Well, It sounds like a good idea to use Dependency Walker to find out what other DLLs it needs to run :)But I'm afraidthis is not just unsupported, but also illegal. As you start distributing certain OS parts (the DLLs) to another computers, that are not licensed to run this OS.

As you start distributing certain OS parts (the DLLs) to another computers, that are not licensed to run this OS. That maybe true, but i think you're missing the point. That being, that if the tabs had not been omitted in the first place, theseworkarounds wouldn't be necessary. At the end of the day, this is aboutsysadmins trying to do their work in as efficient a manner as possible, this is not about mass piracy.

I just spent a few days discussing the issue here internally. It's not going to happen. The bottom line is right now for the Dial-In tab to be exposed, you will need to RDP into a server and run ADUC from there. I will (naturally) be passing along your feedback to those making this decision.Ned Pyle [MSFT] - MS Enterprise Platforms Support - Beta Team

Nevertheless i'd just like to say thank you for taking the time to raise this issue internally. I appreciate your time is valuable!!It's still not clear whythisfeature(previously available in the adminpak version of the tools) has been excluded in RSAT, but i guess we'll just have to live with it ;o)Thanks againMarkEnterprise sysadmin

If you click on your link, you will just get the "link is broken" page. Is there any way to get the final version? Of cource! You can download it at Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7. But I'm not sure whether it will install on Windows 7 RC.

Hopefully the RC version gets put back up on the website.

Really dumb for MS to pull that link. Do they not appreciate how many people are using the RC? I have the RTM version but haven't had time to upgrade yet so I'm stuck trying to trial hyper-v and I can't run the tools to use it as I have no vista. Guessing i'm going to have to install a Windows 7 RTM VM just to get the tools working. Way to go! Anyone have a non MS linky?

I don't know what the problem is. The link works for me:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7d2f6ad7-656b-4313-a005-4e344e43997d&displaylang=enUsing IE8 on Windows Server 2008 R2 RC. Downloading it now.

Anyone find a place to download the Windows 7 RC RSAT's? I have been searching and everything that I've came across so far seems to indicate they aren't out there any more. Thanks,-Duane

Hey Ronnie, unfortunately I kind of already knew that. I also know that the RSAT RTM tools will not install on Windows 7 RC. I am looking into purchasing Windows 7 for my home computers, and as I have a domain at home, I was looking to see what I can do on my domain with the RSAT tools. Is there a version of the RSAT that will install on the Windows 7 RC that I can find for download? Thank you!-Duane

You could try theMicrosoft Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows Vista, or the Microsoft Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems.
November 5th, 2009 4:41am

I tried x86 (as I have Windows 7 x86 installed) and got "This update is not applicable to your computer". :(Thanks!-D
