Windows 7 RC slow and buggy in 2003 domain
Hi!Ive installed 7RC and first problem was that it couldnt find my company domain when putting in the domain path. This has worked on 9 other PC:s with Vista/XP mix.I get a dialogue window saying something about it couldnt find DNS etc.etc.I had the PC set to Dynamic DNS. If I put in fixed adresses, it finds the domain and the configuration could complete. Now for the fun part, when I start the PC it takes FOREVER in the welcome screen, and I come to the "press CTRL+ALT+DEL" security window, put in my password then it takes even MORE FOREVER before I come into the desktop GUI.Once Im in, everything works fine. I can access domain printers and computers including the server and internet also works fine. Then I installed Office 2007, which worked fine, I put in our exchange adress and all folders started updating.I went home for my holiday and came back to work after 4 weeks, now outlook wont find the exchange server. All other PC:s work fine so everything in network and on the server is fine. The server is a Windows 2003 SMB with a local domain. My test PC for Windows 7 RC is a brand new Dell Latitude XTTablet with fastest processor and 3GB RAM, SSD 32GB HDD.

Hi Infralogic, As you mention in your post the problem is most likely to be a DNS problem. Make sure the client has the proper DNS settings. Try using NSLOOKUP and see if it can resolve the name that way. Most of the time when DNS problems occur, people try to ping the DC, but even if the DNS settings are incorrect on the client, you will still be able to ping, but you won't be able to find the proper services on that server without the proper DNS settings. This just for info. If the DNS tests check out, try to recreate or reset the computer account and re-add it to the domain. Don't forget that if you do this you do not only have to delete or resetthe computer object from your AD but you also have to make the computer a member of an other domain like "workgroup" and change it back to your domain for changes to take effect. Please post your results.Kind regards,Filip Wilms

Hi!Well the thing is as said its only the Windows 7 PC that has this problem, I run the add to domain wizard and I get that error message. The domain server is not the DNS server, we use a firewall on the local network for this, which has the ISP DNS server in it.The Vista and XP machines access the domain the same minute I log in, since access to the domainis based on client users added on the server. Also, I reinstalled a Vista machine at the same time, and adding it to the domain the same way was no problem just putting in the path(kk-server.kabelkontakten.local) in this case, and that PC also has Dynamic/Automatic and it works fine.As a note Ive set the Windows 7 PC back to Dynamic IP adress and Im still a part of the domain so the error only occurs when typing in the path and adding it to the domain, where you have to put in fixed IP and DNS adresses. After being added it works fine to have dynamic...So there is some bug some where.Best Regards,Christopher

Can you please provide me with the exact error message? I still think the problem is DNS related...
