Windows 7 RC freezes on my laptoop Acer Aspire
I have a really big problem with the RC 1 from Win7. Firstly I need to write, that the Win7 Beta that I had before worked perfectly :((( so that's why I'm supprised to see such reactions on the RC 1 one. The situation looks like this, the OS works normally without any problems, suddenly it freezes you can open windows, but can't open any program or shut dawn the windowsOS. I can't explain actually in which situation it happen, and maybe say which process cause this problems, because it happen in various occasions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh2KLBk_JyU&feature=email This movie shows the situation. my laptop Acer Aspire 4920 Core 2 Duo 1,6 Ghz 3 Gb RAM ATI 2400 XT Integred Sound card Is there any chance to help me with this, I have turned on the automaticly update to have all the newest path, the graphic card has the newest drivers from Ati (AMD) and I have tried reinstalled the Win7 severall times. ONE Suggestion from me! When I have to choose i the Installation process I have 4 HDD's or partionons (system and primery) but the 2 others are "OEM" ? Their I assume are from my Vista that I had before, but can I delete the partions? I had made a backup on 2 DVD's from my Vista. Regardsmiras

Miras - The first thing I noted missing from your video - can you get task manager open when this is going on? If so, check to see what app(s) are taking up CPU time and memory. If you can't get it open while it's happening, you might try opening it when you first boot up and have it available whenever it goes into this mode. You can try deleting the partitions by way of the Disk Manager console. Click the Start Orb, type Disk Managment, click on Create and Format Disk Partitions. It may or may not allow you to do so - in which case, you may need to get a 3rd party tool of some sort to do the job.

Hello Wolfie, thanks for showing interest on this matter :) no, the task manager wont open :((( I will try keep it open while it freezes, but you can't do anything when it does so I'm not sure if I will be able to see any process. About the Partitions that I mentioned During the instalation proces of Win7 (clean not updated) I have 4 partitions. 1. Disk 0 Partitions 1: PQ Service (OEM) 2. Disk 0 Partition 2: (system) - this is where Win7 I'm installing 3. Disk 0 Partition 3: (DATA) - This is where my files are (photos music etc) 4. Disk 0 Partition 4: (OEM) Can I delete the 1 and 4 partitions? Before that I had a Vista (pre-Installed) I have made a back-up thanks of Acer program. And in my opinion I do not need the 1 and 4 partition to back up it from the DVD that I made, or? Because I have a strong feeling that maybe those partitions have a influence on Win 7 RC right now, or is this impossible? miras

miras - Ah well. It was a shot. Please see if youcan keep the task manager open. It may give us a clue as to what's causing this.As far as your partitions are concerned... I'm assuming there will not be any going back to Vista once the RTM version arrives. At this point, there IS a way to do it - and it's outlined here. Once you've done the steps outlined there, you should be able to go into the Disk Manager module and remove it. BUT... Given the Windows 7 RC is still technically a beta - and there may be issues with it, it might be best to leave it be - at least until the time comes to replace the RC with RTM code. At that time, when you boot from the DVD to install Win 7 RTM, you should be able to blow out partition 1, 2 and 4. You would ned to go into the Custom installation routine, and when you're presented with options as to where to install - you'll need to go into the advanced setup options - delete the 1st and 2nd partitions and create one new one. Once you're done installing and such, you can go into disk manager and expand the size of the 3rd partition (which is now the 2nd partition) so it takes up the space vacated by the 4th partition. The other thing is - I'm not 100% sure where Windows 7 installed it's Master Boot Record. If it installed it on the 1st partition, deleting that would be a really BAD thing to do. If you do blow it out and remove the MBR, you're likely to have to go through the process outlined above - and you may or may not want to do that just yet.

miras23, I'm sorry to hear that you're having issue swith W7 freezing on your laptop. I know how frustrating it can be when your system isn't working propperly. You might want to consult the windows 7 forum at microsoft.com/springboard, there may some information about compatibility with your system, please keep in mind, if your system was stable before, and you have the Vista Drivers they will work with Windows 7, so you may want to revert to them. Thanks,Glen
