Windows 7 RC and OneCare Live
I know that Windows 7 beta was not compatible with OneCare Live but have anyone checked to se if OneCare Live works with Windows 7 RC. Very curious to know.

Same goes for Windows 7 RC. One would think this would have been corrected in 7 RC.

No, OneCare is not supported in W7 and plans for this AV is to be discontinued. Official words were: "Microsoft discontinuing OneCare, will deliver free security offering instead"Regards W7 RC x64 running....

I have a OneCare Live subscription which has almost a year to run. I intend to use Windows7 RC for as much of my work as possible. I find that 7 RC is much more satisfactory than Vista. But unless I have some adequate security suite, this is a verydangerous route to follow. I find it incomprehensible that Microsoft could have any great difficulty in making their own OneCare compatible with their own Windows 7. So should I not make any contribution to the testing programme which Microsoft have encouraged me to undertake, because of the very real security dangers? Not only is it incomprehensible, but it is also reprehensible that the bulk of an annual subscription paid in advance to Microsoft should be rendered worthless.

No offense but we often buy things with the assumption that it will stick around only to find otherwise. I would suggest a lot of Chrysler, Saturn, and Pontiac owners are pondering this in a much bigger way. Microsoft announced six months ago that they were discontinuing OneCare in June 2009. Why would they then develop a version for a beta/RC OS that won't likely go RTM until several months after they discontinue OneCare? I also don't believe I have ever seen anything that would suggest they would ever provide support for OneCare under Windows 7. You are making a choice to run the new OS and much like people who buy a DSLR and then realize they need to buy new software to view the images, it is up to you to get the security software you need. I was running Eset's product and had to get another myself due to issues with Windows 7 RC. With respect to having paid for a subscription, if they are going to discontinue virus signature updates in June then you have a right to a refund. If that is not the case then (again) you are choosing to use the new OS - it hasn't been forced on you. Sorry but I think this sits more with OneCare users than Microsoft. You can't install OneCare on XP x64 either - should MS be obligated to provide a version of the product for those who choose that OS?Stephen

I too have WLOC, but the terms are clear XP & VIsta. The product is being discontinued, to be replaced by some free tool. Sure would like to see a beta of that. Will it handle AV and Spyware? What about other features of WLOC like the WLOC Circle, auto cleanup......- Bill

So they allowed people to subscribe to OneCare for a year while the product was not even going to be around fora year? I doubt they are not working on software for Windows 7. That seems a little shady/illegal to me.

What is shady or illegal? The software runs with XP and Vista - did they ever say they would support it on Windows 7? They also announced that OneCare was being discontinued before the Windows 7 beta program ever existed. Again, if they choose to not provide further virus updates then you have every resaon to press for a refund. I would assume though that virus updates will continue. As long as they do provide those updates on the supported platforms (XP and Vista) they are fulfilling their obligations. You are choosing to run Windows 7 - it isneither a mandatory OS upgrade nor even a finished product. If it does not run with XP SP 3 or Vista SP 2, that would be a different story. A new product is being designed that 1) will be free, and 2) will run onWindows 7. It will not be out though until later this year.I am sorry to come off as a broken record, but this falls back to the choices of OneCare users. You can choose to run your licensed OS and OneCare or you can choose to run a developmental OS and find another security package. Microsoft isn't forcing either decision on you and there are some good free products that run on Windows 7 anyway....Stephen
