Windows 7 RC PPTP VPN
Hello All,I am having a major issue with Windows 7 VPN. I have a number of VPN connections on my machine (all pptp connecting to 2003 RRAS servers). On my Vista machine they all work fine but on my Windows 7 machine they will not function. Sometime they connect and are very very slow and then drop out, othertimes they will just not connect, they get stuck dialing. I also see that I am getting an error 720 in event logPlease help it's driving me crazy

You may have to reconfigure the connections. Was this an in-place upgrade? Read here for error 720. Another reference here. You may also want check your network adapter and modem drivers for Win 7 versions.

Did you check the anti-virus firewall or windows firewall for a block. Reboot your modem or router. Is there anything in the event logs? Perhaps the power management by Windows for the modem or NICshould be changed in the properties>power management tabto uncheck "let windows control..."NIC/Modemsettings the same as they were in the Vista installation?Confirmed that the settings for the server authentication are correct? You could also run this connectivty tool fromWindows. here.It may identify something. This is more specific to dial-up VPN. here.

Hey Hondacars,Are you on dial-up or dsl or broadband? Check the connection settings in IE8 to confirm that the call the 2003 RAS settings (number)is being used there and not the ISP number. (Also, Outlook if you are using it to get mail)The ISP's number will be used instead of the server's number if those settings are different. Then try the VPN connection.

Onereference that I looked at for this issue was resolved by a repair option, not a reinstall. Insert Win 7 DVD and select the repair option. May be worth a try. Takes a little time, but it's not a complete reinstall.

Have you or the server admin looked at the server logs for a clue to the no-connect issue? Or your local event logs on the client computer.

Hello,Yes I have checked all the event logs and I am getting a 720 error message on the VPN. Must be another option than repair.
