Windows 7 RC 7100 won't hibernate
I have installed Windows 7 RC 7100 32bit spanish on an EEE PC 1000H. Due to some strange reason, hibernation fails, but I'm unable to get any clue as to why. The hibernation option is enabled, powercfg -h off and then on work (disable or enable the hibernation options), but when I do the action to hibernate (be it through closing the lid or explictly hibernating from the start menu), the system briefly blanks, writes a little bit to disk but shortly afterwards opens the login window of the current user. I just noticed this after installing linux with the grub2 bootloader, but I can't say that it worked before that. I have gone through the event logs, but there is nothing related, and I'd hate to have to reinstall all from scratch avoiding the capability to dual-boot...

I also have dual boot with open suse and win 7 and hibernation fails. before i put dual boot on i used to run my games with page file off and a registry edit to force the pc to use ram to gain extra speed. Then i took that off and changed from not using paging file and hibernation once again worked. but that is odd cause i noticed after i installed opensuse hibernation stopped. And since you have grub2 booter both boots are on the same partition and you cant uninstall linux with losing both. but im certain there has to be a way to remove one to see if that is the cause in my situation.

Do you have enough free space on your EEE PC for hibernation to work? Let us know if you've found any solutions since you first posted this thread. -Nick

Yes, plenty of space: >40 GB. I have even a hyberfil.sys that is created or disappears when using the powercfg -h on|off. The only thing is that the file is 700 MB for a 1G main ram available. But no, no improvement since may. It has all the windows update upgrades but there are not so many. And I am still without a clue where to look.

Bad hiberfile.sys?rename hiberfile.sys to Xhiberfile.sys.create a new hiberfile.once hibernate is working, delete the X file ( or maybe not, see next step).run a surface error scan on the disk to isolate the bad sector.

I cannot rename it, when powercfg -h is on hiberfile.sys cannot be renamed because it is in use, but it disappears completely when I go powercfg -h off, so I assume it is generated anew whenever I "powecycle" powercfg -h to off and on. So it seems is more related to the use of grub... Any other suggestions where to look? Regards,

I found the solution in the end: A hint by "AndyWalser" in this threadsaid that the problem was due to the startup partition not being marked active. This was the solution also in my case, but my portable (Asus EEE PC) has a small (~200 MB) partition that does not show a disk name in the disk administrator. It seems that both this partition and the C:\ partition have to be marked active in order for hibernation to work.
