Windows 7 RC 7100 failing to reconnect mapped drives..
I have two laptops, now both dual-booted with XP Pro SP3/ Windows 7 RC 7100. I also have a desktop running XP Home SP3 which has three hard disks containing all my data and backups that I wish to share with my laptops. These drives are mapped to my XP systems and now to my Windows 7 systems - I have had no problems with accessing them from the XP systems - this set-up has been running for over two years.. but Windows 7 frequently either fails to reconnect the mapped drives on boot , or they drop out with 'network path not found' after a few minutes. Any ideas greatly appreciated - it's very frustrating and there's no way I can work with W7 with this problem.

I have a similar issue. Upon boot, the mapped drives from a NAS box are marked with Red X to say not disconnected. If I open the drive with explorer it opens right up.If the first thing I do is try to access from iTunes, it doesn't see the drive. This happens for all 8-10 shares I have.

Hi Jim, This issue can be caused by firewall. I suggest that you temporary disable the firewall on the computer and check the result. Another reason is that the drive will drop idle connections after a specified time-out period to prevent wasting resources on unused sessions. The connection can be re-established very quickly, if required. It seems that iTunes cannot recognize unconnected drives.

Just installed Win7 Enterprise and found the Red X on Network drives when booting up. Double Clicking the network drives allowed access and all was good. On restart, same problem. May have come across a work around. Go to Control Panel/Devices/Network Adapter and see if there is a power mamangement setting for the NIC. Disable it! So far, two reboots and all is good.
