Windows 7 RC - What a slow....platform
Today I tried Windows 7 RC in my slow PC (Intel D865, 2.4G CPU, 1.5G RAM, SATA 80G HD...).GoodIt looks good & fresh and the installation is not very long (a little longer than XP), 45 min for my PC.It looks like Linux (the new Linux look like Windows?), more web/networking components added (like Linux). It use IE8 & feel good in Music & Media Player.A more powerful Firewall. Most programs & drivers under XP are okay in 7. More Graphical display, look good.BadI select Upgrade BUT can't so that start from a new fresh installation!!!When several tasks run at same time, it slow down quickly. These programs can't - Microsoft Activesync 4.5, my old Ir driver, the PowerDVD software. The screen is flashing when runing some programs?Running Foxy to get video files, it appears hanged!!!More and more programs installed, the PC appears very slow... & feel hang!!!SummaryIn my old PC, I install / try Windows 7 for 1 day and DECIDE to DELETE IT & back to XP.Windows UserSamuel Chan

Sorry you got such bad experiences after 1 day of testing. But consider three points before a final judgement:(1) Could it be that your previous system simply was not able to be upgraded to Windows 7? You can't "upgrade" everything into everything, that's no real discovery.(2) You notice that a new OS has compatibility issues with programs that were not designed to run on it. What did you expect? I'm contrarily surprised how many software runs on Windows 7 even if this isn't a matter of course. You should know better, as you refer to Linux: That system is a true master of compatibility, able to run all programs from all platforms from the past to the future -?(3) You experienced slow performance and responsiveness. I didn't, many others didn't. I will not say that there aren't slowdowns at some occasions but you can - as always - identify the causes and eliminate them. That's not necessarily a "flaw per design".Windows user, too. Not affiliated to MS, not paid for advertising. The same goes for mine, the online search for drivers works a treat.

You can't upgrade to Windows 7 from XP. Actually, you can, but it's an expensive process - you'd need to upgrade to Vista first.2.) That can happen with ANY version of Windows - XP, 2000, Vista, etc... The more you try to do at once, the slower it gets. Tis the nature of the beast.3.) Some older versions of applications won't run - odds are, however, there may be a newer version or a replacement version that can handle those tasks. PowerDVD 7, 8 and 9 all work well with Vista and Win 7.4.) The flashing screen is likely one of two things - your video hardware isn't supported fully or there's still a driver issue present.5.) The Firefox issue can likewise be something to do with video hardware or drivers.6.) One unfortunate side effect of software these days - a LOT of programmers seem to think they should have something running in the system tray at all times. 99% of the time, those applets do NOT need to be running. The more stuff you have running in the system tray, doing checks for updates, or doing nothing constructive, the slower things get. One thing I would highly recommend - get ahold of the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. It will tell you what hardware and software you can expect to have issues with and will need to be upgraded.
