Windows 7 RC1 keyboard issue
Hi guys. I'm having issues with quotes and double-quotes on the keyboard - they simply don't show on the first type. For example I type " (nothing shows), then I type a and both the quote and the a shows - "a. Besides it is extremely annoying there is another issue - often after the " strange symbols start to be typed and the " itself does not show, so I have to go back, delete all the ____ and type several quotes - """" then delete all but the first and continue typing. Happens on both default english layout and the bulgarian phonetic (traditional) - yes I made the mistake of installing windows with bulgadian keyboard by default. I tried removing the bulgarian keyboard (and wiping it out out of the HKUSERS\Keyboard Layout too), restarted, but the same. It was working fine in the Beta1 :(

Just FYI (I'm not trying to fix my own problem).I have a similar issue - typing doesn't start up when I first start typing. After about 5 or 6 characters the keyboard starts to work.I've got a Logitech trackball (with Setpoint (Vista 64) installed - against Logitech's recommendation). Using a Microsoft keyboard with the default drivers.- John

I have the same issue, Windows 7 RC1 32bit Romanian Build. A friend of mine told me he has the same problem on his english build. I've snooped around the keyboard settings but i've not seen anything that's related to this.

I have the same issue typing quotes and apostrophe on my laptop (Asus A8JC-H013) in both Windows 7 32bit: Beta (7000) and RC (7100), English builds. A friend of mine has the same problem on both builds on regular desktop using USB keyboard. I did not find and solution yet.

Hi Udyudy,As you are using a Microsoft keyboard have you installed the Windows 7 drivers? See: http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/windows7/support.mspx I have Microsoft Wireless Laser Keyboard 6000 v 2 and this works perfectly with Windows 7 (Using the Windows 7 drivers available from the link above)John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Hi everyone, exact same problem here. I'm using Microsoft Multimedia KB (PS2), and have installed the Win 7 beta drivers, but the problem is still there. The interesting is that the problem appears only when I'm typing in Hebrew. In English everything works smoothly. I tried to work with the vista drivers, but with no change. Very very frustrating....

That doesn't make sense, John. I mean, I only need the basic functionality of the keyboard, not all those fancy functions. It worked perfectly in Vista, and XP, without installing any additional software from MS.

Unfortunatelly, didn't work for me. It seems as if it's a problem with the office 2007, since in other sw the Hebrew works just fine.

Hi,That solution worked for me :-) But of course, it's a workaround, not a bugfix, so I think there should be a fix, in the future, so that after installing the OS, the keyboard should just work.Thanks.

Hello DrunkenDonkey,Thank you foryour feedback.I'm a tester on the Windows Globalization Services team.We recognize that the keyboard setting change has become a painpoint formany of you.We are unable to change it back for Windows 7 unfortuantely, so we have requested to publish a KB article to explain the issue.Thank you very much also for those who have explained the steps to add the US keyboard layout back as a workaround.Based on a separate request we had received from our field contacts,we updated the locales that are used in Central and Eastern European countries to providethe United States-International keyboard layout, instead of the US keyboard layout. This was done so because the US keyboard layout doesn't assign a key for the Euro sysmbol.While an official KB article is being worked on, your help to spread the wordandassist your friends and coworkers with this issue will be much appreciatedThank you,ShuWindows Globalization Services TestThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. Hello everyone, Well, after several tries, and long investigations, the problem for me was the Anti Virus (NOD32) module in the outlook 2007! Once I have uninstalled the Anti Virus, problem disappeared!!! So I would recommend first to uninstall any AV installed, see if the problem is still there, and if it's gone, there it is, you found the source. I currently work with Microsoft Security Essentials, and so far so good. I hope this will help you. Oren

I'm having serious keyboard issues with my fresh install of Windows 7 Professional right now on my Lenovo T61p. Randomly it's like ONLY the USB keyboard and maybe the mouse just stops responding. I'll be typing and just miss like 5 charachters. It's EVERY key on the keyboard from letters to space bar to return. Just typing this message resulted in dozens of missed letters.... Any Ideas?

Hi Russell, Have you tried my advice above? Verify your anti virus SW is a WIN7 compatible (I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials). Then try to uninstall it, see if the problem is still there, is not, you found the cause, if yes, try and edit the language options. Good Luck! Oren

Based on a separate request we had received from our field contacts,we updated the locales that are used in Central and Eastern European countries to providethe United States-International keyboard layout, instead of the US keyboard layout. This was done so because the US keyboard layout doesn't assign a key for the Euro sysmbol. May I ask what good it does to have this strange behaviour with the US international layout? Who would be so pervert to torture himself with it? I have already pulled half of my hair out since I started using windows 7 and not yet seen the solution posted here.
