Windows 7 RC1 Backlight Brightness Control Problems
RC1 seems to have a problem controlling screen brightness and from reading various other forums it effects different makes and models of laptops. I am currently experiencing the problem on a Samsung NT-X65 but i have seen reports on HP's and Dell's with the same problem. Basically Windows is unable to adjust the screen brightness, this is irrespective of installing additional keyboard control software to enable hotkeys to do this. The problem is also erratic as it will occasionally start to work then stop again. My Samsung laptop has an option in the BIOS to select auto or manual brightness control, this makes no difference to the problem and in general the brightness gets stuck on whatever the last state was set to when it was working (or when adjusted while in the BIOS). Using hotkeys or Windows+X or any other way to adjust the brightness control simply moves the slider but has no effect on the actual brightness. Different power states (i.e. running on battery or plugged in) as has no effect. If anyone has any workarounds or things to try that would be great as its making RC1 somewhat unusable at the moment. Thanks

Just to let everyone know it was related to the Nvidia Drivers. I did a clean install and without any drivers brightness control worked, then did a windows update and once the Nvidia drivers were installed no more brightness controls. I made the mistake of assuming the Windows Update drivers were the latest however Nvidia had some never 8600M GS drivers and once installed the brightness controls started to workagain.Hope that helps anyone else out there
