That's because the download isn't available. I haven't seen the notification myself on MSDN but from other newsgroups I gather May 5th was the date mentioned. So a little more patience is needed. It is likely Microsoft has accidentally leaked the release date link. It is possible that the RC will show up on P2P and torrent sites. A good site that tracks Windows 7 information is ::MALWARE LINK:: Malware link - Woulda moderator remove sdorand's post? The blogs on the site appear to be sdorand's and when I visited the site tried it tried to deliver "Bloodhound.Exploit.196" to me. Thank you Windows 7 & IE8 for protecting me! Again.
April 19th, 2009 9:01pm

I suggest the moderator check the validity of the claims to the above prior to simply deleting posts of other legitimate users. The site http://windows-7-faq.com/ shows no such malware alerts of any sort in either IE7, IE8, Firefox, or any other browser for that matter on any platform one could ever possibly want to use online. Pnutts claim is false. If any such alert has arisen it is surely a false positive based on some 3rd party software that is installed. http://windows-7-faq.com/ is a great source of news and information for Windows information. If anyone would like to claim otherwise, I suggest they contact me DIRECTLY via the contact form on my site as opposed to asserting falsehoods. My site, like John Barnett's sites are valid. Thank you.

I thought that would be the response. Moderators you should probably lock this thread and I will not respond unless it is on-topic. Thank you for your patience with me. :)When I opened sdorand's site my browser prompted me to install an add-on and Symentec Endpoint Protection notified me of the malware.I don't disagree that sdorland believes his site is clean. He controls some content but can't speak for his ISP ortheads, etc.served to his site. My claim may be wrong, but not false. I'm OK that it might have been a false positive. I have no interest either way other than to warn others. At the very least the claim to have tested "...any...browser...on any platform one could ever possibly want to use online." in the span of two hours should be enough to scareyou away. 'nuff said.

I hate to get us back on topic but...There are so many rumors and then rumors of other rumors floating around the blogosphere. I have heard nothing definitive today. What we do know is this...a) Builds in both branches for RTM and RC are being compiled each day.b) Windows development team, ISV's, OEM's, VAR's and other partners are still testing. Which means they have not set the final build yet.c) Several MSFT web site accidents (sic) have revealed some ideas for RC dates but only key players at MSFT know the real dates. Things can change at any moment.d) Build 7082 may leak but it is not the final RC by any meanse) Windows 7 RC will be available in the next few days or weeks, officially or unofficiallyd) TechNet and MSDN can only download build 7000 as this poste) People who know what's going on are not saying.f) There is no build 7200.Latest known builds (not leaked) are:6.1.7088.0.winmain_win7rc.090419-15006.1.7113.0.winmain.090417-18xxRead somewhere that MSFT has locked down some of the distro servers for a big download event. Crossing my eyes until the event. LOL

Hi moobThere is no 'official' place where this information is available.The fact is that even the Beta Developers who are building Windows 7 are not absolutely positive. Something can always happen that will unexpectedly delay the release of the RC build. This is the main reason that they will not publish a firm date.The information will be released once the RC is complete and placed on the servers for downloading.Anything you see posted anywhere else is just speculation.Regards,Thank You for testing Windows 7 Beta Ronnie Vernon MVPForum Moderator

Well I know MS would like us to do a cleam install of the RC and not upgrade the old beta and I don't have a problem with that. A clean install will mitigate possible problems so it makes sense to me. What I'm wondering tho is if this can be accomplished in the following way as I have Vista x86, x64, & Win7 Beta installed on seperate partitions and a multi boot setup.My hope is that once the ISO is available on MSDN I can DL/Burn the iso. Then to do a clean install by simply booting from an RC install DVD and selecting the partition I have the current beta installed on and selecting a clean install. I realize I may have to reformat that partition during the install but that, for me isnt a big deal. I really have no apps/data I need to save so I'm not needing to migrate apps and such. Does this sound doable? Call me lazy but I would just like to avoid needing to roll back the Win7 Beta to a Vista copy then upgrade it to the RC if it can be avoided.

Jess,Virtual machines are useful (I personally use VMware Workstation rather than Microsoft Virtual PC (VMware Workstation, unfortunately isn't free)). However they do have there limitations. For example you get no aero effect with a VM whereas this problem doesn't arise with a straightforward dual boot. Microsoft Virtual PC also doesn't support USB (VMware does) which makes it difficult if you have USB devices attached to your PC.Of course the one advatnatge of a VM is that you can run it alongside your current operating system as opposed to having to close one operating system and reboot your machine into another operating system. If I were testing something like Vista Home which doesn't have Aero then I would go for a VM, anything higher I would much prefer a dual boot system. In the end the performance of the VM will also be dependent upon how much meory you have to allocate to (a) the host operating system, i.e., Windows Vista and (b) the guest operating system, i.e., Windows 7.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Hi Jess,You will be doing exactly the same as me. I run Vista and Windows 7 as a dual boot. When RC arrives I will simply be reformatting my Windows 7 partition and then inserting the DVD and installing RC to the Windows 7 formatted partition. Whether there will be any issue one cannot say because, I for one, do not possess a leaked copy of the RC. With any beta you should always expect problems, but as for your plan being 'doable' the answer is yes.Of course, because we have been 'asked' to do it I will also be upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista just to check out the 'suspected' anomolies. However, I have an image of Vista so any major problems and I can quickly reinstall the original copy of Vista.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

Tick Tick Tick <watching the clock impaitently LOL>This is actually perfect timing for me. All my Finals are done so I'll have plenty of time to put it thru its paces. While school was going on it was hard to find extra time to test build 7000 as I didn't want to risk doing my schoolwork using the Beta and have it act up

Now the big question is - will it be available at 12am tonight? or tomorrow during the day??I gotta say, the beta was impressive in itself, but the Softies did a great job of hyping what's going to be in the RC - I'm actually really quite interested to take a took and see it!

I know everyone has been waiting for the RC build but its release is not that 'exciting' that i would want to watch the clock and count down the seconds to its release. once the servers get jammed, as they will when everyone starts downloading, the download times will start to spiral. Even on my 8MB broadband connection, once the servers get active it will probably take 10 hours or so to download - well longer than that, actually, if it were to be released at midnight (UK time) because the PC is in my bedroom and I always shut it off at night so I can sleep in peace.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;

All I have to say is it has been a really fantastic experience beta testing this build. Windows 7 is going to be a real treat when it is finalized and released. A lot of friends and customers that come to my shop see me playing around on it on our Media PC in the center of the shop on a 52" LCD TV playing movies, hitting the net, gaming, and TV watching. People get to play with it a little and go WOW! what is this I want it!!!!!????? When I explain to them what it is they all have said "Thank GOD this is coming so I can ditch Vista" and honestly I could not agree with them more. As I have stated in other posts I sill have boxes that run XP, 98SE, Linux, X64 Vista Ultimate ect. because some things seem to run better and more stable on them. Since going to Win 7 on my main work PC tho and trusting it more and more, I ended up not even touching my XP or Vista boxes since Win 7 has done it, it made 99% of everything I use work smooth, fast, and run perfect programs that do not are ones that just wont run even on XP. This is a real treat compared to when I tested Vista in it's beta stages. Microsoft has done a wonderful job here, hey, Win 7 even converted the hardest person I know of in the world to try something new, my dad, the guy that would not even move from 89SE to XP until 2004/2005 that is really saying something there. Keep up the great work! Can not wait for RC1! April 30th, 2009 7:40pm

JessI have been doing exactly what you propose with the various buildse.g. 7000,7077 and 7100 and the installation goes just fine with the OS which saves the old build as Windows.old inthe partition of Windows 7.It doesn't need a format andall downloads apps etc. are saved in Windows.old with the new version OS setting up its own start in the multiboot menu and deleting the old one. So as long as MS continue to release theofficialRC in hte same way you will have nothing to worry about.Obviouslyapps like Office need to be reinstalled as always but the standalone ones you have downloaded will be available in the Windows.old directory where they were originally saved and can be run again to install in the new version saving you the need to download all over again.So on my Windows 7 partitiion I have three versions of WIndows 7 and after installing Build 7077 and before installing 7100 (all from DVD iso's) I renamed the previous Windows.old directory to something different e.g Windows.77 so that the installation process wouldn't screw up because it found Windows.old was already there..Hope that helps

If you are on the 'public' beta for example you would not have access because the roll out for the public is 5th May. Otherwise you're supposedly going to have to wait till the 5th when they make it availble to the public. At least thats my understanding but I might be wrong.As for the key that I'm not sure on. I did the origonal beta when it was open to the public before my MSDN membership was done so not sure if the old keys would work or if they are different. I do know my Subscription key was/is diffrent than the key I was given for the public beta.

Just installeed win7 x64 ver7100 and used original key from beta.. you can also request a new key.. there are several avail.. the site is up but some times the key request does not work try again.. If your not an MSDN or technet subscriber you will need to wait till may 5 for public beta..

Hi Robin,I would imagine the same place you got it from the last time. Obviously, for those that couldn't get access via connect because they don't have the relevant permissions, it will be available on Connect on may 5th.John Barnett MVP: Windows XP Associate Expert: Windows Desktop Experience: Web: http://www.winuser.co.uk; Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org; Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org;
