Windows 7 Programs that require Administrative privileges no longer asking for it
I'm currently running Windows 7 Professional and I am having a somewhat weird and annoying problem. I am currently the Admin on the computer and whenever I try to do something that requires Administrative privileges (e.g installing a program), it no longer asks for permissions. This ends up with an error saying I don't have sufficient permissions. So now everytime I want to use Administrative Privileges and install a program or something, I have to manually find the file again, right click, and click "run as administrator". This is quite annoying to do everytime. This problem started occurring a few weeks back and I don't remember myself changing any system settings or installing any programs right before it started happening. Anyways, I hope there is a way to resolve this. P.S - I would prefer to not have to restore windows.

1. How is UAC set? 2. Could you trace back to the point when this happened? M.

@Milos Punchta I checked UAC and I currently have it set on Default - notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer. And when you say happened, it happens everytime I need to do something that requires admin privileges. As for when it started, I said that it had started happening a few weeks back - not so sure exactly when.

Hi, You may refer to this document and set the UAC Policies as default items. http://technet.microsoft.com/library/dd835564.aspxKim Zhou TechNet Community Support

@Kim Thank you for the reply. I have reset the registry to the default values and I have restarted the computer. However, that did not fix the issue. I think that Windows 7 is simply unable to detect when a program is trying to something that requires administrative privileges. Is there any possibility of this happening? If so, how can I fix it? Thanks, kpsuperplane

Well, thanks anyways. I'll wait and do a fresh install of Windows 8 Pro when it comes out, because the only restore point I have is the factory restore point. kpsuperplane

Hi, Sorry for delay. At this time, you may perform System Restore to a date before the issue occurs. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restoreKim Zhou TechNet Community Support
