Windows 7 Professional can't access shared folder on Windows 2003 server.  Requests user name and password
We just got a new machine w/ Windows 7 Professional for our office and get prompted for a user name and password when we try to connect to our Windows 2003 server. Our other machines running XP connect to our server without entering a username or password by file sharing. We have tried Tanner Williamson's Window's 7 Network File Sharing Fix (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/aaa611cb-a9bc-4fbf-8095-9d0fa6654ca5 ) and have changed the Local Security Policy, but still get prompted for a user name and password. If we never used one before, why is it requested, or how do we get rid of it. The new windows 7 machine can already see other network printers.

Hi, What about the following troubleshooting steps? 1. Right click on the sharing folder in Windows Server 2003 and click Properties. 2. Switch to Sharing tab and click Advanced Sharing button. 3. Click Permissions button, click Add to add Everyone group and allow Everyone group Full Control permission. 4. Click OK and switch to Security tab. 5. Click Edit button, click Add to add Everyone group and allow Everyone group Full Control permission. 6. Click OK to test the issue.Arthur Li - MSFT

I was having this same problem & the stated solution worked just fine. However why doesn't it work (permission to access folders) when the Sharing/Permissions and Security are set to allow a specific Domain User or Group other than everyone? Because maybe i don't want to allow everyone access to a specific folder. Thanks Gary
