Windows 7 Professional Lost Access to Local Network
Recently windows 7 64bit lost access to network shares on a local workgroup network that has windows server and other clients using XP and windows 7. The network map shows the other computers, but when trying to access the shares we get an error message saying "the network path was not found". All the other clients and server can access and see shares on the other machines. This appears to be a problem many people are having looking at all the posts across the internet. We've tried disabling firewall, turning on network discovery, file sharing, netbios. Same issue. The only solution we've found to work is to re-install windows 7, but eventually, after some updates, the problem comes back.

Hi, Here are some suggestions you can try: 1. Write down the network computer’s IP address. Click Start button in Windows 7 and type \\IP address, and then press enter. Can you access the network computer now? If it works, the issue can be related to DNS. You may check Hosts file. Please refer the following article. Modify the Hosts file In the hosts file, ignore all the lines that start with *, and pay attention to other lines. Please only keep the line "localhost 127.0.0.1", delete others. Otherwise, please move on the next steps. 2. Restart the machine in Safe Mode with Networking and access the network machine again. 3. Assure the following services are started: Computer Browser, Server, Workstation 4. Modify relevant settings on Windows 7 machine. a. Click Start and open Control Panel. b. Open "Network and Sharing Center" and click "Advanced sharing settings". c. Expand the current network profile (such as "Home or Work"), and then select the following options: "Turn on Network Discovery", "Turn on file and printer sharing", "Turn on sharing so anyone with network access can read and write files in the Public folders", "Turn off password protected sharing" Hope this helps. Cannot access the IP address directly. I tried those settings above and still get the network path not found. Someone on another thread is looking at some system files I've sent them. http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/partnerwinclient7rc/thread/0510c271-cc8a-43b6-a8d7-504fe1b9330d Thanks

Hi Michael, I’m sorry that I cannot access the above link. Since you have already created a thread in another forum, I suggest you continue troubleshooting with that forum’s support to avoid confusion. However, if you would like to continue to troubleshoot with me, please let me know and I will provide further suggestions later. Meanwhile, if there is any update about the issue, please also post it here. Thanks, Novak
