Windows 7 Professional 64 bit cannot see XP PCs in workgroup
Just installed a Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC on a workgroup and cannot see the XP PCs on it. I can see other shares e.g. network printer and also a Vista PC and Win 7 (32 bit) PC. The Win 7 32bit PC can see the XP PCs. This has been asked before and i have tried the solutions with no success. I cannot believe how hard this is. All machines are set to the workgroup name. I can ping the XP PCs but cannot access them with \\ipaddress or \\ipaddress\share. Node type is hybrid and I have tried flushing the DNS cache, deleting the host file etc. Not sure what I have missed...it appears to be unique to this PC and I wonder if it is related to being the 64 bit edtion. TIA Andrew

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the post! Did you enable the Network Discovery? Click Start - Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center, click Change advanced sharing settings. Enable the option. Could you see it? Temporarily disable the firewall or anti-virus to check if it works. In addition, change the Local Security Policy on your Windows 7 computer. 1. Click Start - Control Panle - System and Security - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy 2. In the left pane, Local Polies - Security Options 3. In the right pane, double click "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" 4. Select "Send LM&NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" 5. Apply - OK Regards, Miya This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Thank you, Miya, VERY much for a solution to this frustrating issue. For all the legitimate & rediculous workarounds posted, I admit to trying most of them out of desperation, this is the only mention of the LAN Manager auth level in any of them. I'm not certain if my problem was more about 64/32 bit disparities between machines or the multi verson variety. Both conditions exist. I'm simply thrilled to have bi-directional access throughout the entire workgroup finally. If I could vote more than once for your solution, you could well be the next American IT Idol. Thanks again for making my day hugely better.
