Windows 7 Pro x64 locks up when attempting to access a network resource
Hello, I am currently having an issue where I Windows 7 will lock up when attempting to connect to another network - here is the scenario:User is connected to 123 network via ASA routerUser authenticates to 234 network via telnetAll works fineUser is connected to 123 network via ASA routerUser FORGETS to authenticates to 234 network via telnetWhen user tries to access a resource on the 234 network, W7 completely locks up leaving no specific errors in event viewer. Also, our authenticated sessions are only 24 hours. If a user adds a printer to their profile that is on the 234 network, or has a drive mapping to the 234 network, their system will lock up as soon as they try to logon with their profile. This does not happen to Windows XP machines on the same network. In Windows Xp you get the normal errors like "Host cannot be found"If you need any more info, please let me know. At this point I am assuming it has to be something with the ASA router and how its handling routing/packets for W7...other then that I really don't know. This is happening on both a Laptop and a Desktop with different hardware.Any ideas?

If the user forgets to authenticate manually, when accessing the resources on network it may authenticate automatically via NTLM authentication. I suggest you change the NTLM authentication level in Windows 7. Network security: LAN Manager authentication level Please change the level to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I made the change and still have the same results - I will look at some more of the policies for network security as well - Thanks for the idea.

We were able to resolve this by making a change to the Firewall ASA router.Previously it was set to 'Do Nothing" when an attempt was made to a denied connection. This worked fine for XP clients, but Windows 7 did not like it.We changed it to force a TCP reset insted, and Windows 7 now functions normal, no more lock-ups!
