Windows 7 Pro x32 RDP can't connect to Windows 7 Ultimate x64
I have an issue with RDP on two machines running Windows 7. PC #1: is a Desktop and has Windows 7 Ultimate x64 PC #2: is a Laptop with Windows 7 Pro x86. Both are on a Home Network, on the same Workgroup, and setup on the same Home group. Basically, I'm trying to remote from the Laptop to the PC. I can Remote from PC#1 to PC#2, but not the other way around. I even turned off the firewall on PC#1 and tried again. No luck. I've checked the firewall settings and checked the Remote Desktop (Home/work Private) Again, I can remote to the laptop (PC#2) from the PC, but I can get it to work from the laptop to the computer. I also tried setting the RDP on both from 3 suggested setting changes I read on a forum. Disable IP v6, Change the Server authentication settings under Advanced to "Connect and don't warn me", and the "Connect from anywhere" setting to "DO not use an RD gateway server". I know I can try 3rd party programs like VNC, but I want to use the built-in RDP and not use anything else unless its RDP in Win 7 is totally hopeless. I have to get this to run perfectly for setting it up in a corporate environment later.

Hi, I understand that you can’t remote to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit from Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. Please take the following actions to troubleshoot the issue: 1. Run Network Troubleshooter to check the RDP problem. 2. In Windows 7 64bit, make sure that “Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop(less secure)” is enabled. Meanwhile, click Select Users to add the name of the user that you use to connect to this computer. 3. Run Remote Desktop in administrator privilege. By default, the remote desktop connection runs as a user with the lowest user permissions. A restricted user does not have permission to write registry entries to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Therefore, attempts to rewrite the MSLicensing key may fail. To resolve this issue, we need to run the RDP client software as administrator: 1) Click Stat, type: MSTSC in the Start Search box, then right click on the "MSTSC" in the result list->select "Run as Administrator". Click Continue if it prompts. 2) Type the target computer address and then click Connect to test the issue again. 4. Change the port that Remote Desktop Connection uses instead of using the standard port 3389, please read How to change the listening port for Remote Desktop. 5. If the issue persists, please collect the RAS logs for further troubleshooting: Note: The logs need to be collected before you start the connection setup. 1) Click Start, type “cmd” in the Start Search box. 2) Right click Command Prompt and click “Run as administrator”. 3) Type the following command: Netsh ras diagnostics set rastracing * enabled Note: Do not close the CMD window, then run Remote Desktop connection again. 4) If the issue persists, type the following command: Netsh ras diagnostics set rastracing * disabled 5) Go to the folder: C:\Windows\tracing, open the log file and paste here. BTW, do you recently delete or change the user account? Deleting user credential or changing the username may cause the remote connection problem.
