Windows 7 Pro randomly loses connection to some network drives/shares.
This is a strange one. I can see where others are having the same issue but I have not found an answer yet so hence this post. This issue is happening on a Win 7 Pro system. As far as I know we are not having this issue on any XP systems. Problem: I have at least one Windows 7 system that every so often will lose access to network shares on our network. It does not lose access to all mapped drives or shares just to a couple and one server in particular - other shares are still working fine. I have logged on as another user to test the profile but it has the same issue. It doesn't matter if I try to access the mapped drive or browse directly to the share. It will not connect. Once I reboot the computer, access is restored like it should be. It will work for a few hours and then go bonkers again. HELP!!

Please make the following changes On the Server whose map drives you don't see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanserver\parameters Value: autodisconnect Data type : REG_DWORD Value: ffff (Hex) On windows 7 client HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanWorkstation\Parameters Value Name: KeepConn Value Type: REG_DWORD Value: 65535 (dec value in seconds)

Hi Poly Admin, How's going now? Did you try _P_K_'s suggestion? In addition, please also refer to this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/thread/fe07dccc-6717-4338-8380-5a0f05b3c5c0, follow Tuesday328 last reply to increase the memory allocation for the LAN driver in the Windows 7 registry. (Before you modify the registry, please backup it firstly.) Regards, Miya TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. I have not tried PK's suggestion yet. I applied Win 7 SP1 on the system having the problem and am waiting to see if this resolves the issue. I hate to make a change to my server that has been running without issue for the last 3 years. I will look at the forum you referenced and repost with results. thanks

So far so good. The user has had no more issues since I installed SP1. But I still need to give it a little more time. Does anyone else have anything to add regarding this subject? Seems to me their should be a Microsoft update for this.

Thanks for the quick update. There are many hotfixes and security updates in Windows 7 Service Pack 1, this http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff817622(WS.10).aspx gives you the detailed information. It's hard to determine which fix this connection issue since this random problem might be caused by many things. To find the failure when the issue happans again, we need to use the Network Monitor to capture the traffic and analyze the issue. You can download the Network Monitor here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=983b941d-06cb-4658-b7f6-3088333d062f&displaylang=en Meanwhile, keep the system up to date is important for the security and stability. Hi, Has anyone else got any other ideas. I have the same problem on all the computers that run Windows 7. We have got a peer-peer network with a NAS as a file store. no one with windows 7 can access the drive, we used to be able to and sometimes we still can but more often enough we cant. In addition when this happens. we can see any of the networked printers or any non win 7 computer. I have followed instructions on all the websites that i can find including this one, but no joy. Can anyone help? Looking at most of the websites, it looks to be a major problem with Windows 7 core O/S.

Hi, I'd like to add to this. I've been having the same case also, from June.. however, the problem went out. So I left it as one of the patches fixed things up. However, just 2 days ago, I'm having the same random disconnect problems again. And I'll lose the entire network connection to the affected servers. Both of which is in the domain. When this happens. 1) I'll lose my network access to the 2 servers (2003 R2, Domain) 2) I can access another 2003 server, not in domain 3) I can ping and network to everything else. Sometimes, unplugging and replugging the network or restarting the pc works. Any ideas? I've tried, the TCP chimney disable. Is there other threads on this that I can look into? Thanks. Need help urgently...
