Windows 7 Pro on DC
I added a windows 7 machine to the DC. I noticed the desktop settings will not stay. For example if I add a short cut to the desktop the next time I log in it will not be there. XP machines have no problems.I noticed my profile is listed at temporary instead of local. It is an account with admin priviliges.Thanks.

In Windows 7, we do not need to manually setup a domain account. When we log on with the domain account the first time, the profile will be create automatically. If there is a user with the same name exist, there are several possible result. It may create another account, for example, your name should be domain/user, the new created can be domain/user1. In some other situations, it may try to load the existed profile. If the profile cannot be loaded, a temporary profile will be generated. Therefore, please do not manually create the account. Remove the profile, and then boot with your domain account on the client.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Hi, Let's remove the user profile on the Windows 7 computer. Then, do not create domain account on the Windows 7 computer manually, just log on with the domain account. Please check the result. To remove the user profile, please: 1. Log on with a local administrator to the Windows 7 computer. 2. Open Control Panel/User Accounts.3. Click Manage User Accounts 4. Select the domain user, and click Remove.Arthur Xie - MSFT

When I log in to the computer with the local admin account the domain account is not there. Should i remove the computer from the domain? I think this issue is affecting my wireless connection also. I did logon \\domain\username but it still did not save my settings. Thanks

Is the domain profile a roaming domain profile or local domain profile? If it is roaming profile, please clear the roaming part of the profile on server. On the client computer please also check the following Registry branch and delete the domain profile. HKLM\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS NT\CURRENTVERSION\PROFILELIST After doing the above tasks, please log on again with the domain account.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Did you remove the corrupt user profile from the Registry? Please completely delete the profile via User Accounts control panel and Registry, also remove the user profile folder. Please note that if you delete the user profile prior to deleting the user account, there may be problems if we want to delete it from User Accounts and Registry.Arthur Xie - MSFT
