Windows 7 Pro gpedit.msc locked down entire system.
Hi, “Was using GPEDIT.MSC to lock down parts of windows for my friends granddaughter's account on her Windows 7 Pro and unknowingly locked them out of every single program” First I want to know the detail steps you did. Such as which option you changed in GP? How did you edit this item? You may check “Restore files and directories” and “Back up files and directories” options in the path of Computer Configuration\Windows Setting\Security Settings / Local Policies / User Rights Assignment. Make sure the current account is set in these groups. Please understand, system restore only could be lunched with administrator permission. I suggest that you may use an administrator account to restore your system. “Is there a back door or a hidden file/folder I can access to delete the settings?” There is no back door for this. However, you could use Windows Live Family Safety to control this instead of group policy. If you have further question about this, please feel free and let me know. I was actually able to find the "save" file that gpedit.msc writes in a hidden windows directory and delete it. I then rebooted the system and regained full access to the system. So in a way I did find a "back door" to fix this. What helped me most was the time stamps on the files and going in to my folder settings and enabling the viewing of hidden directories and folders. Thank you anyway though.

Was using GPEDIT.MSC to lock down parts of windows for my friends granddaughter's account on her Windows 7 Pro and unknowingly locked them out of every single program, control panel, and even safe mode with command prompt. All I am able to access is Computer and explore the hard drive. We don't have access to system restore, revovery discs, backups, or any other way of restoring the system or I would of just clean installed it. Is there a back door or a hidden file/folder I can access to delete the settings? Thank you all in advance for your help.

NPCLough, I just did the same thing you did earlier. Do you remember where this save file is? I'm working on revealing all my hidden files. Do you remember what it is called? Thank you!
