Windows 7 Pro 64-bit network drive searches crashes Explorer.exe
So I have abouteightWin7 Pro 64-bit systems in our office and 3 of them crash Explorer.exe every time you try to search a network drive from within Windows Explorer. The other Win7 systems do not have this problem. The 3 systems that have the issue do not experience the same crash when searching local drives, only network drives. I tried uninstallingantivirus software, but that did not help. Below is the Event log description of the crash. The log also mentions ntdll.dllso I checked the file's digital signature, date, and size on the suspect systems and everything looks the same asthe systems without the issue. Hi, Please check the issue in Safe Mode with networking. Log on Safe Mode with networking =========================== 1. Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard. On a computer that is configured for booting to multiple Operating Systems, you can press the F8 key when you see the boot menu. 2. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, select Safe Mode with networking, and then press Enter. 3. Log onto the default administrator account or any user account with the administrator privileges. Note 1: In Safe Mode with networking, your system display and desktop will look and perform differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. To go back to Normal Mode, we just need to restart the computer. Note 2: If after keeping pressing F8, nothing happens. It is because the settings have been changed by the computer manufacturer. Please refer to the user manual or contact the computer manufacturer for the information how to enter Safe Mode with networking. Does Windows Explorer still crashes when searching on Network Drives? If the issue does not occur in Safe Mode, we can conclude that the issue can be caused by device drivers or 3rd party programs conflicts. Please try Clean Boot. After that, if the issue persists, please let me know the detail brand and model of the three problematic computers. Or you can try to update all the available drivers, especially the Chipset of the motherboard, Network card driver for these three computer to check the issue. Judy :)

I am experiancing the same problem but with Windows 7 home Premium. I network all my PC's so I have them all mapped in Explorer. When I access one PC, the PC being accessed into gets the blue screen. I am trying to access media files (music and videos) in the mapped folder. Do you think this may be a driver issue? I have a D-Link Xtreme Desktop Wireless Adapter DWA-556.

I booted into safe mode (with networking) and performed the file search again on a network drive and it still crashes Windows Explorer. I went ahead and updated the NIC driver (Broadcom 57xx Gig) and the chipset driver, but the probem still persists in both Safe Mode and Normal boot. All three computers are Dell Precision 390 systems running Windows 7 64-bit attached to a Domain.

This is crazy! I know that this is MS WIN7 Problem! Before Windows 7 I never had this problem accessing files off of otherPC's. Here is the kicker...if you accessfiles from a PC or laptop with Windows 7, then the computer being accessed willgiveyou the BSOD.It has thesameerror. I am on a Windows Vista PC...opened laptop that has Windows 7,laptop crashed! If logged into laptop withWindows 7...the Vista crashes! Then I triedredoing the Vista PC and putting Windows 7on it too. Same result...crash! Something is wrong withWindows 7 and it's ability to share files! Who the ____ would want to pay for a crashing OS?! If I would have known...I wouldn't have purchased the $149.99 Windows 7 Family Pack Upgradeto Windows 7Home Premium!

I have been having the same problem. I got to the point of frustration, and reformatted the hard drive and started from there, adding one piece of hardware at a time. One thing that MAY explain what is happening was that my clock was more than a year off!!! I was running the program with the date and time of January of 2009 about 6 hours off. I have changed it and, so far - I am OK. OF course, I have been here where I am working for a while then BANG - crash., My crash, however - is the video halting, the computer continues to run. LEt me kow if you an answer

Hi, We just got a new rig at our shop running Win7x64 and are having the same problem. Windows explorer doesn't crash or BSOD but it becomes completely unresponsive and must be terminated and after that the computer has to be hard booted. It's not just related to the mapped drive but the computer on which the drive is mapped to. We have 20 or so computers in our network and 1 acts as the server for all our files (running Windows XP). The Win7x64 machine can see all of them AND connect to them in the Windows Explorer -> Network pane after a clean boot, but after a period of time we can still see all computers and connect to all save for he server (the only computer that requires a password to view on the network). The computer still remains usable until we try to access the mapped drive at which point the computer is toast and requires a hard reboot. For our case it seems to be related to a mapped drive on a password protected computer as I can still access all the other computers shared folders but cannot access the server. It seems to lose the credentials and refuses to prompt for new credentials. Attempting to access the server fails to connect but does not hang the computer, only when we try to access the mapped drive does the computer hang. We have re-installed Windows several times with no change, all drivers are the latest version and we even updated the bios in hopes it would fix the problems. Needless to say it's frustrating and we have been searching for a solution since all our project files are on the network and this problem makes the computer useless. Is this strictly related to x64 or would installing the 32bit version of Win7 alleviate this? Cheers

Hi. I also made a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate x64 on my DELL Precision 670. Everything works fine EXCEPT accessing files on fileshares on my SBS 2003 which makes explorer very unstable and eventually results in a crash. The machine was running XP 32-bit before without any problems. Still in search of a solution. Michael
