Windows 7 Pro 64-bit fails to connect to SQL Server Express 2005 on Windows Terminal Server 2003: error 18452
The problem occurs when attempting to connect from a Windows 7 Pro 64 bit laptop to a SQL Server Express 2005 configured for Windows authentication, and running on a Windows Terminal server 2003 machine. SQL Server Management Studio Express is being used to establish the connection, and works fine when run on a laptop with Windows XP Pro 32 bit, SR 3. When attempting to connect from the Windows 7 Pro 64 bit laptop however, error 18452 pops up: Login failed for user ". The user is not associated with a trusted SQL server connection." The MS KB article on this error suggests a problem with Windows authentication configuration. IT however confirms that the login and password is associated with a trusted connection, and all other network connections from the Windows 7 Pro laptop work fine, including a remote desktop connection with identical credentials to the windows server that host SQLServer Express 2005, which can be logged into. As recommended in the KB, adjusting security permissions on the Windows 7 laptop has been attempted, to no avail. P.S. Domain authentication is being hosted on an aging Mac on the network. IT thinks there may be a compatibility issue with Windows 7 and out-of-date drivers on the host Mac. Suggestions much appreciated.
