Windows 7 Pro - Home folder mapping on Logon not working
Hi, I have seen several similar posts but no answers to this question. I have Windows 2003 Server and network accounts, Profile is set to map a drive letter (J:) to a home folder "\\server\Users\%username%" I have six Windows XP Pro computers and if the user logs on there, J: drive is mapped properly. I also have six Windows 7 Pro computer and if the same user logs on there, J: drive is not mapped. If I open a CMD prompt and type "net use j: \\server\Users\%username%", the drive mapping works properly. I also have a logon script defined, with additional drive mappings defined, and those work properly. The problem is isolated to the mapping of a drive letter to a home folder, as defined on the Server 2003 user Profile. I have seen several posts on similar topics, with MS support redirecting to Server forums. However, this is a Windows 7 issue since XP Pro workstations work fine. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Murray

Do you see any error messages? I suspect that the network is not established when the script runs when login. Does it work if you manually run the script after login? I suggest you upgrade the adapter driver. If the latest adapter driver cannot help, please change the following policy to try to resolve the issue. Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative templates\System\Logon\Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon Please enable this policy. Additionally, please note that do not run the script as administrator. Did you enable “Always available offline” in the script? If so, the failure may occurs when synchronization. The following KB may be helpful. Users may receive an "Access is denied" error message if you make files and folders available for offline use

I was having this exact same issue, and found probably all the same posts you did. I took a look at my logon script, which was using a net use /delete * /yes to clear the mappings before assigning them anew. With Windows XP, this was not causing any problems with keeping the users' home folders mapped, but when I rem'd this line out of the script, it solved the problem - the home folder maps to the appropriate letter. I wonder if XP was assigning the home drive mapping after the logon script and Win 7 does it before or something. I don't know if your script has the same issue or not, but I thought I'd mention it. Cheers, thomas

I have this problem but backwards, I can get the windows 7 home folder mapped but not the XP computers, any Idea? I have a new installation of Windows Server 2003 with a new domain. On another domain with 2003, work well in both versions xp & 7. But when I add the machines to the new domain the home folder only work on Windows 7.

This may be of some help to people : http://www.mypchealth.co.uk/Win7.php Under the section guides and windows 7 issues... Its talks about mapping drives that already have already been assigned.
