Windows 7 Pro - Configuring Backup & Restore Settings
This is a continuation of this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/23a4b5b0-3770-4608-b8da-63fbf6051124 which has been marked as answered, although as far as I can tell no resolution has been reached. We are trying to roll out partial backups of the \users\<username> directory excluding the download folder across our Win7Pro estate. This can be configured fine on the Backup/Restore Control Panel, but using the wbadmin.exe utility returns the below error: C:\Windows\system32>wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\\fileserver\UserBackups\xxx -include:C:\Users\xxx\Test -exclude:"C:\Users\xxx\Test\Bad" -quiet wbadmin 1.0 - Backup command-line tool (C) Copyright 2004 Microsoft Corp. Note: The backed up data cannot be securely protected at this destination. Backups stored on a remote shared folder might be accessible by other people on the network. You should only save your backups to a location where you trust the other users who have access to the location or on a network that has additional security precautions in place. Retrieving volume information... A partial backup of volumes is not supported on this version of Windows. Can anyone offer any solutions here? Preferably not going around every desktop and configuring it manually. Group Policy doesn't appear to let you specify partial backup configuration. Powershell scripts (using wbadmin) give you the above error. I have also tried exporting .reg files from a configured machine and doing registry merges on a vanilla image, however, I can't find enough information on what registry settings I need to clone to actually *enable* the backup/restore feature. Can anyone help/point me in the right direction? Thanks

This is not the solution to the problem though. Does anybody know how to clone Backup and Restore registry settings from one workstation image to the next? Thanks.

This is not the solution to the problem though. Does anybody know how to clone Backup and Restore registry settings from one workstation image to the next? And further to that, I understand that the wbadmin util doesn't support partial backups on Win7 "Pro",...so what is the Backup & Restore GUI using for it's underlying calls,...as it can handle partial backups perfectly well on Win7 Pro? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
