Windows 7 Photo Screen Saver Issue
Hi, http://codegrue.wordpress.com/2011/04/20/implement-a-standard-photo-screen-saver-through-group-policy/ I used the above solution a few months ago. It worked perfectly. We have recently created a new SOE for Windows 7. Nothing major was changed however now the Screen saver doest work. The GPO applies as I can open up the screen saver on the client machines and all settings are there. I can click preview and it works. However it does not start by itself after the time-out period any more. If I remove the GPO from applying and set the screen saver manually with the same settings it works. If I then set the screen saver to none and re apply to GPO it works as normal. What am I missing? I don't know what else I can check. Zac Avramides

1. Try to analyze differences between previous and current SOE configuration. (Have you used correct profile copying by applying sysprep....) 2. Use GPO tools to discover how it works ( resulting GPO and modelling GPO). 3. Try to add "envelope" in your script that outputs what the script has done (redirect the output) 4. Pair the logon script with logoff script (mapping and ending mapping, erase unnecessary,.... use persistent parameter) 5. You have not mentioned server system, other canges of configuration, traces in Event logs etc. Regards Milos

Hi Milos, The only different between the SOE is one is OEM Windows 7 Prof and the other is VL. The GPO is applied. I have confirmed this by actually opening the screen saver settings in the client to confirm as I did mention above. There are no scripts that get run. It is a Server 2008 system. And as mentioned above as well. Nothing else has changed. Only the SOE. Zac Avramides

Since Screen Saver works if you manually set it on Windows 7, the screen saver function should be OK. I suspect the issue may related with Windows 7 cannot go to sleep problem. Sometimes if other program are running background or wireless device still working, Screen Saver cannot start. You can try to remove all unnecessary hardware, then login with Clean boot: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135 And temporary disable firewall and antivirus program, also disable UAC to see if the issue occurs. Furthermore, the GPO of screen saver may not apply on Windows 7 properly I suggest to contact Windows Server Forum for GPO issue: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverGP/threads The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding. I removed all the settings from the the GPO and then put the same ones back again which fixed the issue. Not sure why that helped but it did.Zac Avramides
