Windows 7 PPTP VPN
I have a number of remote client servers running SBS 2003. I use a PPTP VPN connection to connect to these (one at a time) and then remote desktop to manage the server. I connect OK and can run remote desktop. However after a time between 1 and 10 minutes the remote desktop stops responding. The network status shows the VPN is still connected but I cannot even ping the IP address of the remote server. Disconnecting then reconnecting the VPN returns control to me, but only until the next failure as above. I tried creating new connections, no difference.

The issue occurs if you cannot obtain an available IP address from the DHCP server on the VPN server side. You may: 1. Upgrade the network adapter driver. 2. Temporary disable security programs. 3. Temporary bypass the router or disable the firewall on the router. If the above suggestions do not work, please let us know if there are another computer that you can connect it to the VPN server. If the issue occurs on every computers, I suggest you notice the administrator on the server side.Arthur Xie - MSFT
