Windows 7 PPPoE network problem behind router
Dear All, I (try to) run a Windows 7 32b OS on a non OEM PC. I am behind a ASUS RT N15 router. When I connect with my laptop (XP on it) or my OSX (MAC G4), the PPPoE link (built by the router) seams so stable. (Sometimes there is a minor problem with the ISP.) When I start the PC with the Windows 7, the ISP denies the connection, the router can't connect (the longest was 4 hours...) and the PC says there is no internet. However I type this on the OSX machine, right next to it. As I saw the suggestions for Vista, maybe the IPv6 can makes this, but I don't know yet, how can I disable it in W7. Before this, I used to use Windows Vista without problem on the same machine so I don't think that is a HW problem. In fact, the PC sees the router, and it can communicate with it. BUT If I plug directly the cable, or I try to authenticate from the PC through the router (it supports that way, too) I can connect. Do you have any idea? THX

Hi, Due to the specific about the PPPoE connection, it is recommended that you contact your ISP about this. Just for a test, please just bypass the router and connect this Windows 7 computer to the network directly and check if you can establish the PPPoE connection. To disable IPV6, please refer to:How to disable certain Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) components in Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 Hope this helps. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hello Nicholas,I never give up, so I tested the computer in the last few days. Here is the results:1., If I go directly through the LAN cable (This is not ADSL, the ISP gives ethernetcable.) I could connect with the PPPoE, the link is stable for 30-90 minutes. But whenit drops, I can't connect for 5-15 minutes, somethimes the connection lives for 1-2minutes.2., I completely rebuild my PC from scratch. (Format C:, etc.) The result is thesame.3., I am on the Internet, behind the router with the other machines (XP and OSX)I listening a webradio (audible test, when it quits, I know the line is broken.) andthe W7 says: it can only see to the router, but ther is a cut after it. (For the W7only, the others can reach theNET in the same time.)4., I have updated the PC yesterday to the last patches. The result is still the same.5., I have updated all drivers, nothing has changed.I have a friend at the same ISP but at another city. The story is the same with him,but he use the RC instead of the final version.Of course I disabled the IPv6, but it doesn't affect. As I see, the problem is not exactly the same than the "normal" W7/PPPoE > raspppoe.sysproblem. The machine can connect directly, but can't through router. (SMC, ASUS, Linksys/Cisco)was tested, same result. >> I guess the network discovery can drop the line / brakethe router. When I enable it, the connection cuts. The same configuration was working with Windows XP and Vista for years, so I amconfusedwith this situation.

Plus information:It doesn't matter when the firewall is off or on.I have name resolution, when I am connectedwith the router. nslookup worksping or tracert doesn't.Network sharing center says there is no connection. The router doesn't block any request. (I tested withnew MAC address and fix IP address, no change.)Can teredo, or some new feature make this situation?

Hi, Since your friend at the same ISP also met this issue, I think it is better to contact your ISP and see if they have some constructive suggestion to help you on this. Thanks.Nicholas Li - MSFT

I have talked them. They deny any kind of restriction. I bring an other router to testify, but it soundsstrange.
