Windows 7 Not Saving Files to Network Locations
Quite an odd problem. The problem below has been experienced while using Excel, Word and PowerPoint while saving files in for 2003 and 2007 formats. If I open a file that already exists on the network (yes, I have full control permission on the file) about 80% of the time if I hit the save button in my office product it appears to work, but the modify date will not change. If I close and re-open the file the changes are NOT there. However, if I save as the document under a different name as long as I keep the document/spreadsheet/presentation open all changes will be saved each time I press the save button. If I close and re-open the item 50% of the time the save will function properly. If I wait a day and re-open the document, changes will not be saved without a save-as again. The bad thing about this is the items appear to save successfully, so unless I check the modification date before I close the document the changes will be lost. I have tested this on both Offline files and locations not available offline with the same result. I am completely up to date on Windows 7 RTM and am running the 64-bit version of Symantec End Point Security.Has anyone else seen this problem?-Mike

Hi Mike, Before moving on, I would like to let you know this issue is more Microsoft Office related. We are here mainly focus on Windows 7 issue and problems. However, I would like to share following troubleshooting informaiton with you. This issue could be caused by the following factors: 1. The Temporarily Internet Files location.2. Antivirus/firewall programs affects the saving process.3. The add-ins (such as PDF Maker addin, SnagIn addin) in Office affects the saving process.4. Other causes.Could you temproarily disable them to test this issue? In additon, if the issue still persists, it is recommended to post this problem on Office forum. Thank you for your understanding. Mike - I have the exact same problem. This is very disturbing as I work in so many Office files, and I constantly save-save-save, this problem is a huge concern because it is so random. I made a large presentation yesterday afternoon and made some important changes that I discovered were not made until I was mid-presentation (this was in ppt). I've had the same problem in Word and Excel. Did you find your answer somewhere else?

Is there a solution to this ? A client of mine has been bit by this. Emailed the wrong version of a file. Saving files to the network from two Windows 7 machine is hit or miss. The network consists of SBS 2003 and 8 XP machines, and two Windows 7 machines. No problems with XP machines. And no error messages. From the 7 machines the view of the network looks fine, when in actuality the file has not saved. It appears Windows 7 is using an offline folder cache that is somehow out of sync. The windows 7 machines ARE connected to the network. There was a hot fix release in Octomber (I wish I could remember the number) but it did not help. Kurt
