Windows 7 No longer gets a network connection after Windows Update
Umesh, Please give me better details on why this would randomely happen. I work at a school and with in the last 2 weeks we have started testing Windows 7 Pro on a few IBM desktops and IBM Laptops and it has pretty much worked flawlessly. Starting Wednesday morning Windows 7 said that it would like to install some critical updates. So I said why not. But what I found out afterwords that it shut down the service Diagnostic Policy Service in which in turn would not let me get a internet connection weather through a wired or wireless connection. This happened to a desktop computer and a laptop. When I try to restart the Diagnostic Policy service it gives me a error 5 that I do not have permissions. I am a domain admin and the computer is joined to the domain. So I am unsure why it would not think I am the would not have sufficient rights. I have used the System Restore and it temporally fixed the issue on one of the machines. The only problem after using it for a day the issue reoccurred again. After doing a 3rd restore it will no longer fix the issue. There has to be some thing going wrong with a patch or update that was pushed through windows update. Nothing hardware or software has been changed. Please respond to me asap. Thanks Jeff B

Hi JeffMICDS,   You may try uninstalling recently installed updates and check if it resolves your issue. You can find the installed updates in update history. Follow these steps to see which Windows updates are installed on your computer. 1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update. 2. In the left pane, click View update history.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/See-which-Windows-updates-are-installed Steps to remove installed updates: 1. Open Installed Updates by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates. 2. Click the update that you want to remove, and then click Uninstall. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Remove-an-update Hope this information is helpful.Umesh P - Microsoft Support

I have tried this. It doesn't change a thing no matter how many times you write it. It happened to me a year ago after a Windows 7 update and now it has happened again after another Windows 7 update. I also tried a system restore first, however it did not work. once you do a system restore to before the updates, they are not available to uninstall. I have no idea how I got my laptop to finally reconnect wirelessly (it never worked properly after that anyway) but now I'm receiving the statement "Not Connected - No Connections Available" which is not true. I have restarted my modem and router. That did not fix the issue. I am on the verge of restoring my laptop to the initial factory settings. The only resason I hesitate is that I will lose everything on my Alienware laptop and will have to spend much time re-installing programs - we're talking in terms of hours. Moreover, what would be the point in doing all that so that the next Windows update will once again knock out my network accessibility? Edit to add: This problem was in no way answered!

I had a very similar problem. It's fixed now! So I would bet it should work for you... Try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903267/en-us Apply the manual fix recommended by Microsoft (not the "Fix it" patch) by editing the registry db. After restart everything should work perfectly.
