Windows 7 No Longer Connects To Any Network
I installed Windows 7 over my Vista Ultimate 64 installation a couple of months ago. It has been working fine and as it is a laptop (HP) I connected via wireless to my router and had internet access etc A couple of days ago I lost connection to the internet via wireless (and also ethernet which I tried). I also noticed that the Firewall was not working any more The Diagnostics failed as the Diagnostic Policy Service was not working When I look at the Services there are a number that are not started, and when I try to start them I get a message "Error 5: Access Denied" It looks like most of these services are related, but I can't work out what component is the problem

I also have had similar networking issues. After installing Win 7 RC, this PC no longer joins my netowrk. It "sees" no other PCs and no other PCs "see" it. All PCs are in the same workgroup and network discovery is on. I previous used Zone Alarm Free, but now am using Win Firewall on the Win 7 PC. Any suggestions?

Hi, Thanks for posting here. In avoid confusion, let's focus on the Internet Connection issue first. Regarding the service issue, when the first issue is addressed, I will create a new thread and continue to work with you until all your concerns are addressed. Before we go further, I would appreciate your help in clarifying the following questions: 1. Would you please let me know when the Internet issue began to occur? Does it occur after installing certain update or program? 2. Can we access Internet on another computer in the network? 3. Is the computer in a Workgroup or a Domain? I suggest perform the following steps to troubleshoot the issue. 1. Bypass the router and connect to the DSL directly for a test. 2. Temporary disable the firewall and third party antivirus program. 3. Configure the connection to obtain an IP address automatically ======================================= a. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter". b. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties". If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. c. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties". d. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". e. Click "OK". f. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties". g. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically". h. Click "OK". i. Reboot the computer. If the issue persists, please refer to the suggestions below to re-establish the Wireless network. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx Thanks, Novak
