Windows 7 Networking Problems with Nvidia Ethernet NICs
I thought I would share a little fix for a problem I have been having with Windows 7 Professional, both RTM & Release. I was having issues with Windows 7 intermittently dropping connection. After about 3 or so minutes, especially during heavy TCP activity, my NIC would loose the gateway settings and drop to a limited connection. Performing the built in troubleshooter would correct the issue, only to have the connection drop again within minutes. After a little bit of research, it turns out that my NVIDIA nForce Drivers (the most recent ones from NVIDIA, and the Microsoft ones), were the source of this. I attempted to use NVIDIA's signed drivers and still had the same issue. Turns out there is an issue with a driver setting in both that is causing this disconnections. If you go in to the driver settings for the NIC, and under the advanced tab there is a setting for Receive side scaling set to be enabled by default. By disabling this option, my network connection came back alive and has not lost connection yet. Hope this helps anyone having this issue. My Chipset: NVIDIA 590 SLI AMD

Thanks for sharing your experience to us. For the persons who have the similar issue with the NVIDIA nForce network controllers, try this solution to fix the issue. Arthur Li - MSFT

I just wanted to confirm that this is correct! I have been having the exact same issue with my nvidia nforce networking and had tried just about everything I could find on the internet until I was at my wits end. Thank you so much for posting your results back because you saved me a lot of trouble and aggravation! I will spread the word on this fix as well.

Thanks a ton - this issue was driving me nuts and this fixed it for me on my 780i FTW board. Best part was that it took less than 20 secs! Two days and I have not lost connect yet.

Well, I thought I had fixed it. This morning, when I turned on my PC, the networking would not come up. I know my network is working because my laptop works fine on my home network. I tried to de-install the drivers, and still could not make this work. I think I know why I waited so long to upgrade from XP... I tried to use an external NIC and Windows 7 doesn't even start now. Going back to XP. That was a good 250$ well spent :(( The funny thing was that I upgraded only to play Halo 2. And Halo 2 doesn't work with Windows 7 64 bits ( windows live just crashes) Edit: I'll wait for SP 1 or 2 before attempting this again. Edit #2: I should mention that access to local devices on the network still works. It seems like it's anything that needs to be routed that fails. -Benoit

Receive Side Scaling is for Gbit usage, so if you got a 100Mbit device directly connected to the NIC it will conflict. With a 1Gbit device this won't happen.

I had the same problem and was driving me crazy. When I found this post, and after trying more than 10 different registry 'hacks', I was sure that this is it. And it was. David, thanks for sharing this helpful 'tip' with us.

I had networking problems as well. 3 computers running Windows 7. 2 had Adobe CS3 installed which brings with is a piece of software called Bonjour. These two computers had no end of networking problems. 1 was a desktop connected to the router and the other was a laptop connecting via WiFi. Third computer didn't have CS3 and didn't have any trouble at all. In trying to find a solution (nothing seemed to work), I came across the solution shown below in a different thread and thought I would share it. I installed the upgrade for Bonjour (it's listed as Windows Vista 64 software) and all of my network problems cleared up. My thanks to "PDX Prod Mgr". Brilliant! " PDX Prod Mgr I had the same problem when I rebuilt my Windows 7 system. I had CS3 installed on my system, it installs an old version of bonjour. If you inspect your program files\bonjour directory, see if you have an EXE and DLL file dated 2006. Jump over to apple's website and search for windows bonjour. I found the newer download here: http://support.apple.com/downloads/Bonjour_for_Windows Download and install this (you don't have to uninstall the old Bonjour) and reboot. This fixed my install and I no longer have the network error you describe. If you look at that folder now, you will have the newer DLLs (and some other gunk.) "

I just upgraded to Windows 7 32 bit from Vista 32 bit, everything was fine until my internet connection kept dropping, very frustrated and upset! Read about the problem with Nvidia network and Windows 7, I thought no remedy was available out there until I went to Nvidia website and they just come out with a new driver for my nForce 570 SLI AMD chipset. Downloaded it and installed it, everything is perfect now and I don't regret upgrading to Windows 7 anymore. The link for my driver is http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_win7_32bit_15.53.html.
