Windows 7 Network to Linux without SaMBa?
I have a Windows 7 PC and a "Little Linux Laptop" (LLL) which does not have SaMBa, and it can't be added. What I ideally need is a folder on the PC that appears on the LLL desktop. The users drop a file into it or open an existing file, from either the PC or the LLL. I guess this is impossible. Failing that, a script that will synchronize a folder (or perhaps just a file) between the LLL and the PC. Is this possible? Just about anything that will copy the file/folder would be OK, but it must be easy to perform (novice users). Note that even though the link is wireless, this does not need to be a secure transfer. So long as outside computers can't get access either my PC or the LLL, the files can be sent plain text. Any suggestions? -- Nigel M

As you are needing support for the LLL you should be asking these question at that forum Windows has what it needs, it is the LLL build that you need to find a solution for.

I'm not asking for support for the LLL, I'm asking if anyone has found a solution to connecting from Windows to a Linux device without SaMBa.-- Nigel M

What you are asking is how LLL would ALLOW windows to connect like you want and as this is a WINDOWS forum and NOT a linux forum you should be asking the question in the LINUX forums. The folks who play with LLL would have a much idea of what you can or can not do with LLL.

I ran across the Midnight Commander program that you might be able to use through a SSH connection to the Windows 7 machine. See your other post for information about SSH servers for Windows 7. http://www.littlelinuxlaptop.com/midnight-commander-file-manager/ If the LLL machine has a built-in SSH client you could also use SFTP to access/transfer files from the Windows 7 server. In this LLL support forum thread a person named gertk64 has a link to a FTP and SSH client that can be installed. You might check that out. http://www.littlelinuxlaptop.com/forum/?wpforumaction=viewtopic&t=8.0 Its also possible setting up a FTP server on the Windows 7 machine may be a solution. This should be available on most versions of Windows 7 at least from Windows 7 Home Premium up... http://www.tomcarpenter.net/2009/08/21/windows-7-ftp-server/ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc771012(WS.10).aspx MS-MVP Windows Desktop Experience, "When all else fails, read the instructions"
