Windows 7 Network Discovery Issues
Couple of questions / problems with a Win7 Client. I keep getting these errors at login and resume after long idle. I have disabled all the power management settings (Lenovo Laptop) to stop the software from controlling the network card. There are no domain controller or network issues. Can someone please help with steps to rectify this. EventID 1129 - The processing of Group Policy failed because of lack of network connectivity to a domain controller. EventID 129 - NtpClient was unable to set a domain peer to use as a time source because of discovery error. The error EVT1129 is causing a major problem since it stops the login script from running at logon. Causing more issues. Thanks, SJMP

Hi, First, I would like to confirm the following questions: 1. Is the machine in a domain or it joined to a domain at one time? 2. Does the error occur when the machine connecting Internet or without network? To troubleshoot the issue, please perform the following steps. 1. Upgrade the NIC driver to the latest one. 2. Disable Saving Power function on the NIC device. a. Click Start, right click Computer and choose Properties. b. Click Device Manager. c. Navigate to the NIC card, right click it and choose Properties. d. Choose Power Management tab. e. Please uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. f. Restart the computer and test this issue again. 3. Disable User or Computer Settings in Local Group Policy if the machine is not in domain. 4. If the machine is in a domain or joined to domain once, please try the suggestions from the link below: Group Policy Fails to Apply Offline Thanks, Novak

Network Discovery is causing me a serious issue. In my home network I use a 2wire DSL gateway/router, with an XP desktop wired, and a Win7 laptop WiFi. Everything worked fine until I installed a LinkSys WRT54G running DD-WRT configured as a wireless repeater/bridge, to extend my WiFi coverage. Connecting directly to the gateway still works fine, but if I connect to the bridge I lose Internet connectivity within a few seconds. Sometimes it will come back some time later, but then go away again. The interesting thing is that my Ipod touch will work just fine on the bridge, and so will my laptop if I boot Linux. The other interesting thing is that when I lose the internet, I cannot even ping the gateway but I can see my shares on the XP desktop, and I can ping the desktop, even though I can't ping the router that's getting me there! I have tested with a Vista laptop, and it has the same problem. So Linux and IOS4 work fine, Windows doesn't. If I turn off ND then the problem goes away, but now I can't access my network shares. So I have a choice, access the Internet or my network. There must be a better solution?
