Windows 7 Need Static IP address at office and DHCP at home
I have a Windows 7 wireless laptop connected to a Server 2003 Domain at the office. Because of problems with the internet connection dropping it appears the solution is to apply a static IP address at the office and deselect TCP/IPv6. This works just fine I don't have any problems staying connected to the internet all day now. However when I take the laptop out of the office I need to obtain an IP address and DNS server automatically. How can I do this without manually having to change the settings each time I take the laptop out of the office and bring it back in? There are lots of similar threads but no specific answer for this situation. Even if I have to write a script I don't mind but would appreciate any help if solving this. Thanks.

If you don't have a DHCP server in the office, it is quite easy. You go to your TCP/IP Settings (for V4) properties, then choose in the general tab choose "Obtain an IP Address automatically". On the alternate configuration tab, you enter the static ip address you need for the office. If your computer can now find a DHCP server, it will use a DHCP address. If not, it will use the alternate configuration. Hope this helps.
