Windows 7 Mapped Drive Disconnects
I have Windows 7 Home Premium on an HP Pavilion Laptop. This laptop connects on start-up to a wireless home network with three other Windows 7 machines. Also on this network is a mapped drive that each computer connects to for storage purposes. This drive does NOT have an operating system, it is simply a storage drive. All other machines on the network connect and remain connected to this drive without issue. My laptop however, will connect on startup, then after a short period disconnects from the mapped drive. If I click on the mapped drive, it does NOT reconnect, and tells me that the drive cannot be found. Then, after another short period, the laptop reconnects to the mapped drive. After some time , the computer will again disconnect and reconnect to the drive, and will do so repeatedly. Now, up until a couple months ago, even my computer would connect and remain connected to the mapped drive without issue. However, a couple months ago, my laptop was hit by a particularly nasty piece of malicious software. Even after successfully cleaning the system of the malware, I was unable to restart my security software. Not only did the malware get by my security software, but it completely disabled it, to the point that after a week of trying, Microsoft's technician admitted to not knowing what to do, said he needed 2 days to research, and I never heard from him again. Finally, after backing up all my important data, I did a complete system restore to factory condition, a function provided by HP on my laptop. After the restore the only issue I have is the disconnect and reconnect to the mapped drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

looks like a dodgy network adapter, my netbook (Compaq) routinely moves 100GB of data around wirelessly without a problem. I am using an Atheros b/g/n adapter on the machine, seems to be fine. what is your machine equipped with? Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. I have one or 2 of these around the shop if you are using the one HP supplies, that is one of the problems check with atheros, i found a better driver there Windows MVP 2010-11, XP, Vista, 7. Expanding into Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server, SharePoint, Cloud, Virtualization etc. etc. Hardcore Games, Legendary is the only Way to Play Developer | Windows IT | Chess | Economics | Vegan Advocate | PC Reviews

It came with an Atheros AR9285 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter. The driver is currently up to date.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Unfortunately, no luck!! I understand the need for making sure the driver is correct, however, I'm not understanding how a driver issue could cause a recurring disconnect and reconnect on only one specific connection. I do not lose any other connections, whether to the internet or other network devices, and all of my connections are wireless. My computer does not hard wire to anything on the network. Also, if it were a driver issue, would I not have had the issue prior to the malicious software attack? My computer worked perfectly prior to the attack, and only developed the disconnect/reconnect issue to the one specific device after the restore.
