Windows 7 Libraries - Slow response when logged on as restricted user
We are having issues with libraries in Windows 7. Documents, Video, Music, Pictures are all using folder redirection to redirect to our file servers - this is working fine. However, when logged on as a standard user it takes about 5-10 seconds for the libraries to open. Browsing file shares etc is lighting fast and the same thing happens on libraries that point to locations on the local machine. Has anyone experienced the same problem/any ideas on a fix? Thanks, Daniel

Hi Daniel, please run ProcessMonitor in background and start Explorer and open a library. After the library is correctly opened stop the ProcessMonitor trace and look at the time offsets of the trace. Which operation takes most time? Hi Andre, Thanks - I ran ProcessMonitor, but explorer just seems to loop through reading/writing to the Documents.library-ms file and then querying the registry a lot. Its not clear what's causing it to take so long. Daniel

Hi, Please also disable folder redirection and check how it works with a standard user. Thanks. Nicholas Li - MSFT

Hi, Did you ever solve this? I'm getting the same here and process monitor shows the same results you had, i.e it constantly accesses the file

Did anyone get a fix to this? Disabling folder redirection is stupid when that is what you are trying to do.

But what should I do if I need the folder redirection? I have the same problem with Terminalserver 2008R2. Thanks. Michael Gernetzke
