Windows 7 Internet Connection Speeds (V. Slow!)
HI,
I have just purchased an Dell Latitude E5510 but am having problems my internet speeds. I connect Wirelessly to my router and the signal strength is 'Excellent'
I've read a few similar posts that mention rebooting in Safe Mode with Networking. When I did this my connection speed went from .1MBs to 2MBs. I just need to know how to get this speed when Windows starts up normally.
Any help would be much appriciated
Tommy

Please try updating your drivers to the latest versions first. Although the laptop maybe new, it may have an older version of the wireless driver.

Latest drivers are from July so not that old and your laptop maybe have been on a shop floor longer so definaltely worth a go.www.mypchealth.co.uk

Thanks Chunks. Have reinstalled the drivers and updated router firmware, none of which has helped.
If I hardwire the laptop I don't have any issues, it's quick. Any ideas?

Hi Tommy858,
There are Windows 7 drivers (32 & 64-bit) from Dell and Intel. So, that should not be an issue.
Have you tried using WPA or WPA2 with AES encryption for the wireless security? Windows 7 is happier with that.
Also, check the configuration of the firewall or network traffic scanning for the security software that you are using. Temporarily disable protection when in normal Windows and check the connection.

Since the performance in Safe Mode with Networking is much better than in Normal Mode, most possible cause can be one of your background programs. I suggest you troubleshoot in Clean Boot Mode.
Perform a clean startup to determine whether background programs are interfering with your game or program
