Windows 7 Icon stating Not connected but everything else says I am connected
this problem started a few weeks back and I was just wondering if there was a way to fix it. The Icon clearly says I am not connected but in fact I am and even when I click on the icon it says "currently connected to Network, Internet access" so what could have went wrong to cause this and how can i fix it? EDIT: Also it says Local Area Connection even though I am connected to the internet

It could be the icon is referring to another network connection that in fact is not connected. Check to see if you have multiple networks, by going to the Network and Sharing Center. BTW: It should say Local Area Connection if you are connecting by a LAN (network) cable to your router.

I believe you have two network cards and your PC is still receiving connection from wired, but actually your configurations are set to receive connection from your wireless card. In this way though your icon says you are not connected you still have Internet connection.

If you are connecting to the internet only with a LAN now, and are no longer using the Netgear wireless adapter, un-install the Netgear connection management software.
