Windows 7 Homegroup after changing router to Belkin Playmax N600 HD
Hi, I have had a network setup in my house with my old Thomson wireless G router for months. I have 4 computers all running windows 7 x64bit and there was a homegroup setup that let me share all my files and most importantly I could stream music and videos etc to my pc connected to the TV with media center running. I could also see the "PC media servers" on my phone (A windows Phone 7 mobile) and play songs from them or play to the various computers etc. All computers are connected wirelessly btw. Next I bought a new Belkin N600 Playmax Router for faster speeds. I installed the router internet was all working computers can all see each other in network ping works including ping -6 by name to all the different computers but homegroup no longer works. ALso none of the devices can see any of the shared media libraries anymore. I left the homegroup on every machine and tried creating on any of the 4 machines but none of them ever sees the others homegroup or offers to join. Furthermore media servers can still not be seen and play to doesn't work either(Biggest problem). Now just to make things ultimately confusing if I bring in a new laptop (Aka a friends one. Have tried this with 2 machines to the same result) and create a homegroup on that once it has connected to the wireless network all the other 4 machines can see it and join however only the "outsider/friends machine" can see all the computers that have joined and their respective media servers. The other 4 still can't see any of themselves only the media server and homegroup shared files on the "outsider/firend" machine. I'm so stummped I don't know what to do. As soon as I turn my old router on again and connect the 4 pcs to its network then create a homegroup everything instantly works fine! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help I'm so desperate. Have tried calling Belkin for over 8 hours to no avail and reset the router 4 times and even had it replaced twcie to no avail. Only other note when I look at network on any of my 4 pcs the only media servers that show up there or in windows media player is the belkin Playmax n600 media server and the one for whichever PC I'm on. If I connect a USB HDD to the router then they can all see it fine as well. ROUTER: Playmax N600 HD PCS: Toshiba Qosmio x500 HP Touchsmart 610-1120a Toshiba Qosmio F55 Toshiba Qosmio X305 Thanks a million million in advance to anyone who can sheed any light at all. Hi, I just want to know whether this problem only occurs when you use “Playmax N600 HD”? According to your description, I would like to suggest you please try following steps to leave homegroup on each machine: 1. Go to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking and delete all of the files in this folder(please back up these folder before deleting). Now restart the computer. 2. Go to Services again and you should be able to start 'Peer Networking Grouping' and 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol'. Restart the computer again. 3. When you log on this time, you should now have full functionality restored to your homegroup. Please try to leave home group again. After that please recreate a homegroup, and join it again. Hope that helps Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. IPv6 needs to work for Homegroups.. Read on Belkin Play N600 HD just a toy router. I saw the Belkin Play N600 HD router (F7D8301) at Costco a couple of days ago, for a very good price. Id been looking for a good price on an 802.11n router for some time partly to increase coverage through my house, but also to ensure that I had a new router that would cope with improving technology as I buy it over the next few years. Unsupported protocols Sadly, this router isnt it there are several existing protocols that it just doesnt support, which is rather odd for a new router. Specifically, I note that the router does not state support in its interface for PPTP or IPsec passthrough protocols 47, 50, 51. When I asked the Belkin tech support about this, they directed me to try forwarding ports on the router, apparently not aware that there is a difference between port and protocol forwarding. Thats an astonishing lapse in ability and knowledge for technical support on a router, and doesnt give me much comfort that the router itself is developed with skill or knowledge. Another protocol not supported by this router, which seems just crazy when were one hundred days away from X-day, is IPv6. Thats right, IPv6, the next-generation Internet Protocol, required for numerous features of modern Windows systems such as HomeGroups, DirectAccess, etc (Im sure there are IPv6-only features for Mac and Linux, but those arent my specialisation), and it isnt supported. You can connect to the router as a wireless client, but the IPv6 protocol, access to local DHCP servers, etc, isnt supplied to your host computer. My Linksys WRT54GL has supported that for several years, and this new router from Belkin cant handle it.David (DvD)
