Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit Media
Hi, My father in law recently moved to France, and now has a problem with his laptop, requiring a new hard disk. The problem is that he doesn't have a DVD to reinstall W7 home premium (64 bit). The computer shop that is going to repair his laptop only have the French version. He already has the licence and product key, so it doesn't make sense to purchase a new one. So my question is, what is the best way to send him something that will allow him to install his O/S? Can I get hold of a DVD somewhere, without having to pay for a new licence? Would it be illegal to send a copied disc if he has already paid for the software licence? Thanks, Neil.

A retail copy of Windows 7 has all the necessary stuff on it, except possibly for drivers (but won't include any applications at all). You could make a copy of such a disk, and snail-mail it to him - he (or the shop) can then use that in conjunction with the COA License Key on his PC to reinstall the OS. The other (and preferable) option is to order a set of recovery disks from the manufacturer to be sent to his address - these will reinstall the computer to ex-factory state. -- Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed Sloth
