Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit blocking incoming ftp connections on private [wireless] network.
I'm not sure what happened, because it has been a few weeks, but my windows firewall has now been blocking my incoming port 21 connections. I know my server is working because port 80 is working fine, and I can connect on port 21 on the loopback I.P. 127.0.0.1.Any thoughts as to who what when where why or how?Only option that makes a difference in firewall that allows my incoming ftp connections is to completely turn off the firewall on my private network[s.] All other options fail to yield results.

Hi, I would like to suggest you open a port in Windows Firewall to fix this issue. For the detailed steps, please refer to the following link: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-a-port-in-Windows-Firewall Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Tried that now. Opened port 21 inbound tcp. No avail. I was wondering, what can I do to replace the entire firewall here? What other factors could cause this problem?

Hi, I would like to confirm which application is using port 21? You may also allow this application through firewall to check the issue. Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

synchronet console & synchronet control panel.both programs are already set to allow inbound connections [which i would presume is because i allowed them the first time i used them.] however port 80 works, port 21 is no longer working.sounds odd, as it had worked in the past. just don't really know what i did to cause this issue.i have tried "upgrading" [i know sounds stupid] my windows 7 with an exact windows 7 over it [just to replace the firewall] but to no avail.

Hi, I would like to suggest you test the issue in Safe Mode with Networking and Clean Boot. What are the results? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Hi. Tried safe mode with networking and clean boot. Again, both to no avail [as far as accepting inbound tcp port 21 connections.]

moderators, how about moving to the correct forum? This really has nothing to do with Windows VPC or windows 7 virtualization, at least as far as i can see...

Hi, I would like to suggest you allow svchost.exe in Windows Firewall as well to check the result. Does it work? Regards,Arthur Li - MSFT

Came across a final answer at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd421710(WS.10).aspx Gave these two commands to the command interpreter and working perfectly: netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name=”FTP Service” action=allow service=ftpsvc protocol=TCP dir=in netsh advfirewall set global StatefulFTP disable Thanks! -sUb-eLiTe
