Windows 7 Home Directory getting disconnected/greyed out
Hi guys,
First of all, I would like to say that everything was running perfect prior to our Windows 7 upgrade migration. With our new workstations running windows 7 some clients are losing connectivity (greyed out) on there home directory that is the redirection
of my documents localy. I created the home directory within the users account and not using a login script.
I am wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. It seems some people blame that the user account setting is not recommended because its not a persistent share and some users blame that once the home directory is indexed it disconnects itself from
the server. I am really in a culprit here because I am not able to reproduce this issue. Just some random user tends to call me at least once day with this issue.
I am running a Windows 2003r2 File Server with a domain level of 2003.
Thank you, any ideas would be great,

Hi,
Can you directly access the files on the server when the issue occurs?
Please disable both sides' firewall and SMBv2 for a test.
Also, I suggest you set up Offline Files for these users. This function can make files available even if computers are offline.
What is Offline Files.

The files are available if I use another workstation and the other mapped drives including DFS is also available that is located on the same server.
I see what your saying about offline files but I dont think this is a fix for my issues its a turn around but not a fix.
I really want to correct the issue at hand.
Thank you,

Hi,
Do you mean that you cannot access the files on the problematic computer? If so, you may ping the server to see the status of connectivity.
Have you tried to disable SMBv2 and firewalls? If not, please try these.

Yes the server is available and I am actually able to connect to the same server with another share. For example I have the following drives mapped.
U-Drive is \\SRV2\home$\%username% using AD
Z-Drive is \\SRV2\corp using login script
Y-Drive is \\SRV2\share$ using login script
Notice that all the drive map are coming for the same server just that it seems that the drive being mapped from AD and also being redirected local to that drive is the one losing connection.
Regarding SMBv2 how do i disable it?

Hi,
Disable SMBv2. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Click Start , type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2.Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4.Type SMB2, and then press ENTER.
5.On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6.Type 0 (zero), and then click OK
7.Exit Registry Editor.
8.Restart the computer.
Also, because Windows will drop idle connections after a specified time-out period by default. You may also try to disable this function to see the result.
To turn off the autodisconnect feature, open a command prompt, type the following line, and then press ENTER:
net config server /autodisconnect:-1
