Windows 7 Group Policy
I am looking to allow a standard user to be able to install the following without having Administrative permissions. 1. I want then to be able to add printers for their home office. 2. Install Active X, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, and associated updates

1. Can be solved by using group policy settings to allow standard users to install drivers for the printer class of devices. See http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725772.aspx for complete steps. But, this only let your users install the actual driver, they cannot run any setup.exe from an installation disc. 2. ActiveX controls can be managed via GPOs so that standard users can install, see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc725772.aspx But when it comes to installing applications your out of luck. This must be done via group policies or other deployment methods on a computer level.Blogging about Windows for IT pros at www.theexperienceblog.com

For ActiveX controls Windows 7 has implemented the ActiveX Installer service. But to get this working you will have to perform a lot of Administrative work. UAC must be on for the client PCs, the websites or domains, from which you want to install ActiveX controls as end user need to be added to Trusted Sites at machine level via Group Policy (which blocks adding Trusted Sites by end users on their own) and of course the ActiveX Installer Service needs to be configured via Group Policy as well.
